Beware of SACD Transports -- they probably will not work with your favorite DAC
Big Greg.If the OP has JUST a transport then that has NO DAC.Which I feel is the crux of his question. @uberwaltz good point.  The original post was a little hard to read, but after re-reading it, I understand the point being made with transport ...
Looking for an Integrated Amplifier to match Totem Rainmaker Speakers
If you're looking at the Rega, you should also take a look at the Heed Elixir.  It includes a MM phono stage. As a counterpoint to the suggestion that you need at least 100 watts, the Heed Elixir has 50 watts at 8ohms and can drive my 87db Canton V...
Antennas for FM Tuners in Urban Setting
I have the Magnum Dynalab ST-2, not an ST3 as I said in my earlier post.  Too late to go back and edit it.
Beware of SACD Transports -- they probably will not work with your favorite DAC
I've done a bit of research on this and everything I've read indicates that you can't output SACD via optical (toslink or coax) but can via HDMI, so you'd need something like an Oppo with an HDMI output and a DAC with an HDMI input (not many out t...
Antennas for FM Tuners in Urban Setting
The best antenna is going to be a roof mounted antenna on a mast.  Unfortunately there aren't many being made.  I recently purchased the ST3 antenna for my bedroom system and was not that impressed.  For an indoor antenna, I found that the less ex...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
A really nice second hand copy of Chicago VII. I really like the jazzy instrumentals on the first disc and there are some nice hits on the second record.
why a high end phono preamp?
I'm sure someone more technical can explain this better but a phono preamp is taking a very small signal and magnifying it many times and also applying a riaa equalization to the signal. No small feat and how well it is done is definitely going to...
Is there a quality website that lists upcoming releases of music
I generally get information about new releases on Tidal and Spotify, but if you're not using one of those services, check out allmusic.com
Subwoofer info
Cant comment on rythmik as I have never heard one b4 but their service is not as good as others. So you've never heard one, but you know their service is not as good as others?  Might I ask what you're basing that on?I own three Rythmik subs and...
Subwoofer info
Pete, For what it's worth, I bought my SVS subs used in August 2014 and they are still going strong. There's a reason SVS offers a 5 year warranty on their products.Greg
Subwoofer info
I don't own any of those subs, but I have a Rythmik F15, not the F15HP (and also a pair of F25s) and two SVS SB13 Ultras.  The F15 is not that big or heavy.  I have mine in my office system. No experience with the Paradigm subs, I've never heard on...
The Future of Audio Amplification
Funny, I haven't read anyone comment about having owned both class d and a-a/b. I'm very interested in what they think. This thread, as well as the entire audiogon forum, is populated with either/or, one or the other, with very strong advocate...
Sub recommendation to augment Klipsch La Scala's ???
There are a lot of great options for "musical" subwoofers. What size is your room?  What's your budget?  Do you have a preference in terms of connections (speaker/RCA/XLR)?  Music only or music + movies?  Any placement / WAF issues?Ported subs can ...
Help me decide on phono preamp
The Manley Chinook is what I use in my main system.  I haven't done an A/B comparison of the Chinook and the Nova Phonomena, so can't speak to a direct comparison between the two, but the best way I can describe the Chinook is that it is more "mus...
Subwoofer HUMMMMM
Sorry, I missed the part about even when "nothing is connected".  I've had my subs hum because of a bad cable or poor connection, but if you don't have a cable connected...
