Herron Audio...Still in business Keith told me that one of his design goals is to build gear that will not come back for repairs. That's why all his amps are SS.
Herron Audio...Still in business Keith may be retired now. Last I looked, his website is gone. I have Herron M2 monoblock amps, Herron vtsp-360 preamp, and the VTPH-2A phono stage. All his gear is clean, detailed, and neutral sounding. If you come across any of his gear, it’s a g...
speakers cables for Lavardin and Harbeth? Duelund. Gig Harbor Audio will make custom lengths and terminations for you.
Experience with Modwright products? Dan is a prince of a guy and makes great stuff. I had a LS100 for a long time and was very happy with it.
Moving Up from a Jolida JD9 +1 For a Manley Chinook. A lot more quiet and dynamic than the Jolida, much better build quality.
Vacuum tube amplified headphones... What?!? Why not just get a tube headphone amp? Or get one of those rinky-dink "tube buffers" if you think having a tube in the signal path will do something magical.
Why do speakers improve with more powerful amps? My 150 watt Herron M2 monoblocks sound better than 300 watt Ampzilla 2000 2nd edition monoblocks or PS Audio 350 watt M700 monoblocks with medium efficiency speakers. My 25 watt Quicksilver Horn monoblocks however sound better than the Herron am...
Pre-Meta KEF Reference 1 or LS50 Meta Yes, monitor speakers with a sub will play deeper than monitor speakers without a sub. Does adding a sub make lesser speakers sound better? Debatable.
Pre-Meta KEF Reference 1 or LS50 Meta Whatever the Meta material is, it's not magical. The Ref 1 is in an entirely different league. With or without meta material.
Upgrade to the Sennheiser HD 650 for $500? There are many options. Every set of headphones has its own sound signature. Personally, I would put more credence in reviews that provide listening impressions and subjective comparisons than measurements, but that's just me.
Why Do Cables Matter? What do you want your cables to do? Magically and dramatically change the sound of your system? That’s unlikely, unless they are junk and don’t perform the basic function of getting a signal from one place to another. They can and do sometimes i...
BEST CD TRANSPORT Jay’s Audio CDT3 Mk3 One of my friends has this along with the Jay’s Audio DAC and it sounds amazing. For comparison I’ve owned a Rega Apollo, a Marantz Ki Pearl, Oppo 105D, to name a few, and currently have the CD transport in the Rockna Wave...
HDCD vs the Newer SHM-CD, BluSpec, UHQCD, etc Blah blah blah "my Oppo 205" blah blah blah. Please consider the possibility that the bottleneck isn't where you theorize it is.
HDCD vs the Newer SHM-CD, BluSpec, UHQCD, etc Get a high quality purpose built Redbook player like Jay's Audio and load up on Redbook CDs. Or go the "jack of all trades and master of none" route and waste a bunch of money buying bright sounding proprietary disc formats.
Who turns center off when listening to music Wait, what? NO! I have a combined 2 channel / HT setup. The AV processor is OFF when listening to music. No need for a center channel. Conversely, for casual TV watching, I often don’t use the two front speakers, just the center. |
