Ever Hear a Tube CD player?
I owned a tube ARC Ref CD-8 for about 9 years.  It sounded ok to me, but I never compared it to anything else.  I just stepped up to a new tube Ref CD-9SE, which should be delivered on Monday.  Kinda' curious how the redbook CD side of the CD-9SE ...
Audio Research VS115 - click, snap -did it arc or not?
brxl, ... looks like you sourced the problem.  I suggest that you buy a pair of ARC KT-120s to replace the affect pair, .... after you replace the blown resister(s).  ARC matched tubes are as good as it gets.  If too expensive, pick up a quad from...

Brxl, ... I reiterate my prior advice to call Greg at ARC.  He generally picks up the phone when I call.I am not an electronics techie, so I am hesitant to give advice.  But I can ask a few questions.  First, did you check the bias of each tube?  ...

Suggest that you call Greg, ... ARC customer service.  He, or a tech, may guide you with a diagnostic approach.  I used to own the VS-115.  It is a very nice amp.

VPI Classic 3 Upgrades or Move On to Something New
bigkidz, ... do you know if Matt (or anybody) picks up the phone at VPI?  Years ago, before Harry retired, somebody (like Jack or Mike) would also pick up the phone.  Not sure what goes at VPI with Matt at the helm.
VPI Classic 3 Upgrades or Move On to Something New
jjgasp,I own a Classic 2.7 (sic).  Basically a Classic 1/2 plinth, which I upgraded by swapping out the tonearm, base and motor.  My back-up cartridge is a SS Zephyr.  My regular cartridge is  Lyra Kleos. Your OP states that your cartridge is a SS...
Potential Warmer Replacement for LS17SE
Hi Jay,Not sure you what can fetch for your LS17SE.  But of you can get $2500 or more on a private sale, you are within strike distance of a pre-owned Ref 5SE, which I see selling for about $6500. If not the Ref5SE, then maybe an LS27 or LS28.  Bo...
Leave tube amps always on?
Being an owner of ARC tube gear, my response is NO!  My gear is probably 80% of the way there after 20 to 30 minutes after start-up.  After an hour, my gear is all the way there.I echo what another some of the posters said about tube life.  My amp...
My #@%$ Cat Destroyed My ARC REF 5SE. Soliciting Suggestions.
wharfy,I am very sorry to learn about the cat issue.  I used to own the ARC Ref 5SE and IMO, it was a very fine sounding linestage.  About 2 years ago, I traded up to an ARC Ref 6.  Big overall improvement, especially in the bass.  If you are stil...
Member Almarg passed away last night
I was deeply saddened to learn that Al was ill.  I am even sadder to learn about his passing.  Al and I traded many online and offline  messages over the years.  Al always taught me something new and interesting.  I really cannot add much more to ...

Where do you buy your CDs these days?
I just scanned Acoustic Sounds here:   https://store.acousticsounds.com/I was very surprised.  It seems like they only have a couple hundred red book CD offerings in stock.  Maybe I didn't check carefully enough. But if I am right, ... not as muc...
Solid states more accurate than tubes?
To mahgister - You post that "the real accuracy of a S.S. design or tubes design is not in the subjective impression of clarity or details, it is in the perception of the real tonal timbre of instrument and voices.....  "Is the piano sounding lik...
