Sub woofer cable help please...
I agree with Mofimadness. In fact, I am doing the exact same thing with my rig. If youy check some of my threads, you can see some of the technical issues that I had to overcome, but some of these issues could be unique to my set up. By way of qui...
VPI Classic hum
As Macdadtexas said, it looks like the hum related to the motor since nthe Aries motor is an outboard job. Curious though because I did not have a hum with my Classic/Maestro combo.
Price for ARC PH3 SE and PH5
I agree with the last 3 comments. FWIW, ARC described the PH-5 as follows: "Sonically, the PH5 surpasses the PH3SE in every way. The PH5 has wonderful clarity, making music sound more immediate and simply more there, putting the musicians in your ...
VPI Classic hum
Bassraptor and Macdadtexas: My particular problem may have resolved itself. Here's why. I turned on my rig, carefully as usual lowered the stylus onto the record -- and no sound. Thought a tube blew in my phon pre, so I opened up the case and chec...
VPI Classic hum
Macdadtexas: Is the Soundsmith Zypher a MM or MC? If MC, do you know what the voltage output is? The gain in my phono pre is 58 db, so I don't want to install a cartridge with an output of too much less than 1 mV. How much does it cost? Also, Bassr...
VPI Classic hum
Bassraptor, anything to report about the hum issue? Mike at VPI said that I should receive my Classic 3 arm towards the ned of next week, already set up to take the Maestro. We'll see. I agree, this is way too hard. I admire the build quality of t...
Audio Research Ref210 vs Ref300 vs VTM200
Smoffatt, Is your Ref 3 LE the limited edition version? I believe ARC may have only made a dozen or two LEs, which I think has special upgraded coupling caps. If so, how did you come across the Ref 3 LE version? I've never seen one for sale on A'g...
damping factor
Leo, please explain Q factor. I don't know anything about it. Also, how does one learn what a particular speaker's Q factor is? I don't think I've ever seen that data/spec reported. Thanks
Bowers & Wilkins - B&W
Blackmsport, Elizabeth is spot on. I think over the years I've put together an enjoyable system, but I haven't bought anything brand new at a hi-end audio store. My concern about buying from hi-end audio stores is that they try to sell what they ha...
How to determine version of Thorens TD-160
Whyland, take a look at these web sites:theanalogdept.comvinylengine.comTons of information and lots of interesting reading.
VPI Classic hum
Bassraptor, thanks for the update. Did you try the suggestions I made on the 23rd, namely: "Do you get the hum with the stylus sitting on the record, but with the motor turned off? I suspect that the answer is no. Then if you start the motor, I as...
VPI Classic hum
Hi Bassraptor, are you ready to report on how're making out with the Classic/Maestro combo? I'm waiting for VPI to send me a Classic 3 arm, hoping that will calm down my bass resonance problem.
VPI Classic hum
I hear ya! My goodness, I NEVER had anywhere this much grief with my old Thorens. I think the Classic is querky because of the uni-pivot arm. Everytime you mess with VTF, you screw up up azimuth. VTA is just trial and error, but at least we can ad...
VPI Classic hum
Bassraptor, I had a another thought that might help to localize the cause of your hum problem. You said you get the hum when you place the stylus on the record surface, mostly in the first couple of tracks. I'm not trying to be simple here, but do...
Audio Note M6 vs ARC Ref 3 Preamps...
I LUV my Ref 3. Terrific synergy with the rest of my ARC gear. A little twist on Brawny's comment, "[w]ith that being said, [ARC Ref 3 and 5 line stages (my insert)] owners are fanatical, like a cult." FWIW
