REL Studio III vs. JL Audio Fathom 113 Interesting and timely thread as I just replaced a REL studio III with a pair of Fathom F113's. I was ready to go to stereo subs and had to decide what route to take. I loved the REL and felt it was the most musical bass that I had heard. My chall...
Boulder 2020 DAC, any direct experience with it? I have one. I have demoed three other high quality front ends in my system so far and nothing has displaced it yet. They include the EmmLabs CDSA, Meridian 808.2 (whatever the new one is that gets all the great reviews), and the Boulder 1021 CD pl...
Tara Labs Zero to Zero Golds. Are the Golds better? I have had them both in my system recently. I believe I commented about the differences on my system page. I am not sure if the grounding station was different however.
Running Springs Audio I have used both powercell and many RSA's including Dmitri. They are both good. The RSA tends to romanticize the sound (in a good way) and has a huge soundstage. I think the Dmitri is more focused and the best of the RSA's. The Tesla has an extrem...
Upgrading wall outlets I have noticed meaningful differences as well. Can those who used Furutech, vs Oyaide vs others comment on the character of the differences? I have used standard, Porter pots, sound application, and the new synergistic tesla and find them all to b...
SOTA Tube DAC's I know we can do better than one response:-) I would include tube based CD players in the discussion. What about Audio Research CD8, Abbington Research CD77(sp), wavelength products? Do any of these represent state of the art in digital playback?
Wilson's new speaker the Sasha is coming. Having Auditioned extensively most of the Wilsons and owned Maxx 2 and now Alexandria X2.2s, the darker on top comment makes perfect sense to me. Previous Wilson's I have heard (especially the WP7) were bright on top with the wrong accompanying eq...
Entry level tube amps? Surprised no one has mentioned the BAT VK 55. A great tube amp, with a fabulous midrange. Used would be in your price range. I had a full BAT tube set up with Wilson Maxx's, and it took more money than I would like to admit to outperform them.
Burmester and MBL It is important to note that the Noble line (15XX, 50XX) is quite different than the reference line. I changed from a 1521 transport to a 1621 and the difference was notable. What I experienced was a similar level of detail with much more musicali...
Power conditioning Another vote for Running Springs Haley... or any other if you want to spend the money
Musical Power cable Thanks for the responses so far. After I posted this question I saw that there was a similar(albeit different) thread underway. I would encourage any sound application users to chime in as well. Since it usually doesn't come with a cord people are...
Wilson Alexandria V2 DgadI think it took me much less time to get them set up versus the Maxx's. I will say that you will notice some component matching issues. Specifically, the Maxx treble is "hot" by comparison. Thus, you can grind out much more detail, while still...
Dedicated Lines, Now what? Consider a ground loop.
Wilson Alexandria V2 I recently upgraded from Maxx 2's to Alexandria X-2 series 2. Thare are many differences. The top end is waaay more laid back than in the Maxx, but very detailed. I suspect that is where some of the Hi-Fi comments come from re: Maxx. The mid range...
Watt Puppy 7 needs new or used Amp and Pre-amp I second the notion of tubes for the WP7. I auditioned the full line of Wilson speakers extensively before I ultimately bought Maxx 2's. The WP7 was very detailed, but definitely bright in comparison to the current Sofia and Maxx 2. |
