Review: Jadis Orchestra Reference Integrated Tube amp
Recently, the KT88s have made way for JJ KT77s. There is a noticeable difference. The upper bass bloom and density have disappeared. Bass weight is still there, but detail has been improved. This 'cleaning up' of the upper bass has in turn made th...
wilson cubs
Hi. I've owned a pair for 8 years. Tubes have worked best for me - the local store also plumps for them, or steers you towards Gryphon SS. Positioning is crucial - currently, I have them in a somewhat unsympathetic room, but the sound improved mar...
Review: Jadis Orchestra Reference Integrated Tube amp
Hello again. I've tried a few different tubes in the JOR, so here's an updated review.*If you need a bit of extra power (as I did), swapping out the KT90s for KT88s improves things noticeably. The qualifications regarding piano and orchestral dyna...
ARC LS1, LS2, LS3 , or LS7, which to buy?
I purchased new a SP9MkIII in 1996, just after manufacture was ceased, and found it utterly reliable - it was in my system until last year. At the time it was compared with the MkII and it was markedly better, especially in regard the phono stage;...
Jadis Orchestra Ref + Pre-Amp?
Thanks for the comments. I think the general gist is that while the above is possible, it probably is not a great idea.Hi Trelja - the JOR has KT90s - the distortion occurred from the get go, that is directly after purchase. In fact one of the fac...
Jadis Orchestra Ref + Pre-Amp?
I assumed that since the pre-amp section is passive, all the volume control is doing is decreasing output by adding resistance - put the volume control on full gain and the JOR is basically operating as a power amp: if this is incorrect, please le...
help with a lush 50 watt+ amp
This might be too vintage for you, but as a previous owner of an Audio Research D70 I would put this in the realm of lushness; wasn't the most reliable, however. Currently I have a Jadis Orchestra Reference, but this musters only 53Wpc, and is not...
Audio Research D125 - help re problem
Thanks for the further feedback. Audio Connection have two technicians who work on the ARC gear. Between them and ARC themselves (sent them a fax and received a detailed helpful reply) it was decided that all the sockets should be replaced with ce...
Subwoofer for Wilson Cub
Hi. I use a REL StormIII with series 1 CUBs. The integration is seamless, and the sub is relatively discreet - have a look at the REL website for exact dimensions. Cheers, Rob.
Starting From Scratch - What would you do?
Just for something a little different - Jadis Reference Orchestra integrated - or if you require more power and SS, a Gryphon Callisto 2200; depending on your budget - Proac Reference 8 signatures, B&W 805Nautilus, Sonus Faber Guarneris, or Wi...
Sovtek 6550 - Can they really be THIS bad???
Hi Trelja. Thanks for mentioning the possibility of the JOR being "loose" - I took this to mean that the little bolts on the casing could be loose, and sure enough tightening them virtually eradicated the hum - presumably the service guy who biase...
Jadis Orchestra Reference + Wilsons
BTW - the hum has disappeared. Tightening a few bolts seems to have done the trick, so I assume the low level vibrations from the transformer set up a resonance with either the top or bottom of the casing. This might not even have been Jadis's ass...
Any reliability horror stories out there?
Hi Mikej. I'm not really complaining...looking at the complexity inside the ARC products it's a wonder they don't break down more frequently - in the overall scheme of things mine have been reliable enough and I would buy them again. And to make t...
Sovtek 6550 - Can they really be THIS bad???
Hi Trelja. I assume this is the new DA60? And it's been burnt in? The JOR didn't sound great for a week at least, and then when the store replaced all the KT90s in response to only one being faulty it took another few days just for the tubes to so...
Any reliability horror stories out there?
Hi Trejla. Good luck with the DA60. Actually, I doubt whether you'll need any luck. In Sydney here, the store owner of Audio Connection is also the distributor and makes sure that after sales service is good - one of the staff, whom I've known for...
