Customs delay from China. How long should I reasonably wait?
The level of vibrant speculation from some folks about this is somethin else. Express shippers like FedEx can receive and forward inspection notices because of the backlogs they generally cause. It doesn’t seem suspect in and of itself. As some m...
The time has come and I request advice...
ghdprentice 6,188 posts 03-11-2024 at 09:09am  +1 Aurender. Seems honest opinion. Okay.   I would not go the Roon route, costs, adds complications, not much of a long term future. Aurender Conductor app is well regarded. It is improv...
I am about to embark on my next upgrade journey
@upward_bound REL’s designer advocates a relatively low crossover point for their subs, correct? This might be relevant to the bookshelf model you select, if you are determined to pair them with a specific model of subwoofer. From your OP I can’t...

Stuff You Tried To Love
chayro 03-07-2024 6:46pm I know we talk a lot about confirmation bias- we buy something and then convince ourselves we like it. Or something like that. That’s something, but it’s not confirmation bias.     cleeds 5,590 posts 03-07-...
Why do some amplifiers throw a bigger soundstage than others?
atmasphere 11,505 posts 03-08-2024 at 12:15am ”is this statement meant to rule out bass as being important to listener perception of soundstage?” @benanders Yes. Bass (20Hz to about 150Hz) is important if you want to get the tonality right b...
Musical Expectation Bias
Expectation bias generally relates to experimental design flaws, not (in this example) to subjects’ perceptions in a study. If expectation bias were involved in that study, it would likely be a fundamental issue rendering the investigators’ discus...
Small factor phono stage
Is there a preference for which kind(s) of tube the stage uses? That would inform suggestions.
To loom or not to loom?
mapman 21,708 posts 03-07-2024 at 08:56am  You can’t enjoy the fruit without the loom, eh? Heh heh heh, could be I’m just too old to enjoy Loomy Tunes.
Anybody using the last record preservative
ghdprentice 6,160 posts 03-07-2024 at 12:37am Maybe 3 in 1 oil would be less volatile than WD40 and have less overspray. I know of an individual who’s been using WD-40 for at least a decade in this way; that should be an eye blink for...
Why do some amplifiers throw a bigger soundstage than others?
atmasphere 11,504 posts 03-07-2024 at 12:37am …impedance issues in the bass region, which has nothing to do with presenting a sound stage. @atmasphere is this statement meant to rule out bass as being important to listener perce...
To loom or not to loom?
The idea that all-from-same-manufacturer cables can be audibly superior (since such difference is not measurable mechanically, and hasn’t been demonstrated as real by way of consumer preference studies) vs. a mix in a hifi system assumes the given...
Why do some amplifiers throw a bigger soundstage than others?
I like the way a seasoned amp maker put it: Competently designed speakers can sound different from each other. Competently designed amplifiers can sound different from each other, but less so.
Differences in YouTube, Spotify, etc.
I occasionally use YouTube (not music/subscription version) to find/try new music via desktop USB DAC and headphones. That’s the limit of music streaming for me. All streaming companies really should provide production details of the given tracks/...
