Thiel Owners Sorry for the confusing post. Other than the mechanical crossover, the rest of my post was intended as fantasy. And now you clarified that the crossover bit is also imagination.Happy Thanksgiving
Thiel Owners @tomthiel I recall you also wrote the 7.3 coax would have had a mechanical crossover. Carbon diaphragms, sealed bass and top shelf passive parts would have made for an absolute world beater.
Thiel Owners @jafant No, I haven’t played with the fuses. Until the CS2.4, my tweaks were on the low budget end (mini-sandbox for my TT, cables on wood blocks, and the Ayre IBE disc). With the FST-sourced crossovers, it seemed very likely that an upgrade in pa...
Ayre KX-5/20 & VX-5/20 v AX-5 Twenty Keep in mind that as is often the case with intergrateds, the AX-5 Twenty is not particularly well suited with sub 4 Ohm loads. This is nonsense. Here are measurements of the Twenty version, recently published https://www.hifinews.com/content/ayre-...
Thiel Owners @jafant You might be interested to read the new AX-5 Twenty review in Hifi Newshttps://www.hifinews.com/content/ayre-ax-5-twenty-integrated-amplifierOn the bench, it produced 650 W into a 1 load under “dynamic conditions” (I think this similar to ...
Thiel Owners @jafant Nice! What amp were you previously using? I imagine you are happy with the SQ. Does it play loud enough for you? Assuming *balanced* connection (please tell me you’re using this and not the RCA connection) and full scale output (common on ...
Wharfedale Elysian 4 Incredible build quality and sound, but made in China. China has essentially no protections for workers or the environment. The electronics manufacturers aren't so bad but speaker manufacturers are terrible. Workers spraying paints and lacquers with no respiratory protections, literally poisoning them...
Thiel Owners @jafant Writing of my speakers cables. Sold the NR to help pay for the GR. That said, Cardas ICs are also excellent, IMO.
Thiel Owners @jafant I just had 16 ga speaker wire when my system was mid-fi (B&W, NAD, Rotel, Tecnics). Moving up to the high end, I found a great deal on used Cardas Neutral Reference. Ayre really likes Cardas, so that greatly influenced my decision. Now...
Thiel Owners I took delivery of an AYRE AX-5 integrated amp in black casing Oh, fun! I suspect you'll enjoy your combination of gear.
Qobuz or Tidal? Another vote for Qobuz. I have zero use for MQA. Using Roon to decode MQA, I have preference for PCM. When I had both, Tidal definitely had a bigger library but Qobuz keeps adding and I’m not sure Tidal maintains that one advantage.
Thiel Owners @jafant I made no comparison. Just assumed that the previous volume was “optimized”, a dubious assumption given that the volume can easily be modified by compression, ie, there is no one OEM volume that can be discerned. I merely made it as close ...
Thiel Owners @vair68robert Thanks for the update regarding wool batting. My SEs had rectangular fiberglass batts (no paper backing) stuffed into the passive radiator chamber. My new boards have much more volume so I peeled off some of the batt volume in attempt...
Replace Ayre Codex with Topping D90 DAC Roon does have a volume level but I always leave it at 100 and use my AX-5 to set the volume. Worth it for @dbphd to check!
Replace Ayre Codex with Topping D90 DAC Yep, my QB-9 started as the second iteration, ie, 192 Hz version. Then I had it upgraded to DSD version (which was much more about improved sonics than ability to play DSD files). And now it’s been upgraded to the Twenty version. The chassis and f... |
