Is solid state obsolete?
Not a chance. "Big Iron" solid state will never be obsolete. On my rig, the IC based amps have nowhere near the current needed to make the music happen. The IC based amps do have their place with high efficiency speakers and for those for whom they...
Tuner Information Center...gospel?
Well, I've had a number of tuners that have been reviewed there and agree for the most part with their conclusions. There are some I have that I'd like to see their thoughts about, as I consider them to be quite good however mostly unknown....one b...
Genesis V -- how do they compare to bigger G's
I had a pair, could not live with the sound of the metal dome upper mid. As to amps, I would consider tube amps first. The V's image like champs, and do not sound all that bad, except for that metal dome.....did I mention the horrid sounding metal...
Speaker upgrade plans.....
You would be well served to keep that sub when you "upgrade" to the Kharma 3.2 especially if you want full range sound. The 3.2 is as weak as can be in bass. Not a full range speaker.Good luck!Best,Paul :-)
any experience w/ Wilson & Spectral?
Hello Allenc:Full range classical......To be tactful, I can say that for me the results were less than pleasing. As the volume increased the instruments melded together into an unpleasant congested melee and loss of resolution.Best,Paul :-)
any experience w/ Wilson & Spectral?
I have heard Wilson Sophias set up with spectral monoblocks at a lrge New England dealer who has great rooms. For casual listening stuff like female singer, jazz and lounge lizard music the system sounded great. Nice staging and placement of voice ...

atc speaker/dk design amp
Here's some advice, take it for what you paid for it.Always look at resale going in to a deal.Von Schweikert= well-known, easy to sellATC= not so well known, harder to selldk MKII= new vendor, lots of differing opinion, questionable resale.Don't r...
Genesis 501 speaker sound
I'd go for the V's instead of the 501's. Even better, keep your Sigmas. I've had both.Best,Paul :-)
Aerial 10T latest version vs Revel Salon or Studio
Your 10t's are a great speaker. I had a pair myself, I now own 20t's.You are comparing apples and oranges. Personally I would prefer the 10t's over the Revel Studio, however the Salon may outperform the 10t. Salons want lots of power as do the 10t...
System Pictures - Should Owner be there too?
Good post!If you look carefully at my system, the pic of the rack shows a photo of my girl and I, however only I am visible due to the angle of the shot and sun reflection. I certainly qualify as "ugly as sin". :-OBest,Paul :-)
Your opinion on the evolution of amps since 70s?
About the 275 McIntosh......the new ones are different, instead of point-to-point it's on a board.However.......I have to say that at it's price point the new 275 is a giant slayer with a most excellent sound.Best,Paul :-)
Is ebay feedback worth anything on Audiogon?
I like to have a phone chat either buying or selling. With all my sale items I reply with a phone ## and suggest the buyer call.....some do, some don't.Best,Paul :-)
