Idiotic question
No such thing as an "idiotic question."The way I heard it, BNC stands for British Naval Code. It was developed either late in WWII or soon after. It seems to have been developed as standard electrical connections in use at the time was the RCA con...

You might want to consider a headphone system with multiple headphone outs.
CD player recs under $2000 to replace Jolida
You may want to consider a modification by Parts Connexion.
What SET amp can drive the Von Schweikert VR1-89dB
Look at a low-powered,Class A SS amp. Tubed power amps are nice, but can be maintenance nightmare.
Jolida JD100...giant killer or all hype?
A giant killer with Parts Connexion Level 1 mod.
LP Cataloging Software?
Check Stereophile Links 2 Die 4. They have several. Or just get yourself a database & roll your own. I've always been disappointed with canned software because they have more fields than you want to fill in.Making your own database doesn't req...
Limits?
For me, it's lack of storage space. It also doesn't hurt to be spending money on this hobby. Otherwise I'd have more music than I know what to do with.
Why Don't People Search The Forum Archives?
I think, ultimately, the problem is Audiogon not having & PROMOTING a FAQ section with generic answers to common questions. I don't even know if having a FAQ section is possible due to rapid changes in latest & greatest technologies in audio.
Looking for recommendations for CD player
Jolida JD-100. If posible Level 1 or 2 modified by Parts Connection. These units are listed in AudioGon classifieds from time to time. Stock units sound good, also. Good luck!
Is there a SS amp that can offer tube bliss?
I'm with Brooks, I think comparison is getting closer all the time. If a more "tubey" soundung SS amp desired, I'd suggest looking at a manufacurer that makes tube & SS gear (like C-J). They seem to voice SS amps to sound more "tubey."
Dynamic Headroom vs Resistance
I would remind him "doubling power" is in an ideal world. In the real world, most amplifiers fail to double their power because their power supplies run out of juice.
XM radio question
Has he tried both "cassette deck inputs?"Is he sure XM Radio is plugged into "cassette deck inputs?" Does he still have instruction manual? On '80s equipment, I seem to remember certain components operating backwards from coventional terminology.T...
Traffic "John Barleycorn Must Die" - Why no mfsl
I've wondered, myself. One of their biggest mistakes. The only thing I can think of is tape didn't meet MFSL standards.
Soundstage there/gone/moves - poor current ????
Make sure nothing on AC cirrcuit as stereo is turning on/off/ emitting alot of RFI. Maybe something budget friendly like AudioPrism Quietlines, Enacom AC Filters, power conditioner or power regenerator like PS Audio 300 ( kinda pricey) will do the...
