Jim Gordon has Passed On...
From what I’ve read, Jim’s drug use aggravated his mental illness, which had been long undiagnosed. According to Bobby Whitlock, Clapton and Jim did not get along, especially when they went on tour. After their first tour Whitlock remained in Engl...
Paul McGowan gets asked about rotary subs.
Not a problem @arion, at least for me. Yep, for dipole loudspeakers (of which most OB loudspeakers are) dipole woofers ARE are the way to go. And I complete agree with your calling drivers which reproduce "only" down to 20Hz woofers, not subwoofer...
Advice for an aspiring musician
The Piano. For learning anything musical and/or advise contact Rick Beato (videos available on YouTube).
Fender Blues JR IV or fender 94’ twin.
Fender Deluxe Reverb or VOX AC30. The Twin Reverb is far too powerful, and has a very bright sound.
what are your top "audio bargins" in your system history?
Oops, forgot the pair of Infinity RS1b I bought from Brooks Berdan (his personal pair) for two grand in the late-90's. Sold them back to him and got the superior Eminent Technolgy LFT-8b.
The last of the black Rock 'n' Roll pioneers?
@larsman: I played live at some Raves in the 1990’s, and the kids looked to be having a great time. I’ve never heard any bad stories about Ecstasy. Just peace, love, & understanding. And sex ;-) . I have no doubt Alcohol has caused more miser...

@curiousjim: Allow me to suggest a subwoofer that is ideal for your Acoustats: The Rythmik Audio/GR Research OB/Dipole Subwoofer. Planar lovers (especially electrostatics) have been looking for a sub which can "keep up" with their loudspeakers si...
Jim Gordon has Passed On...
@noromance: Here’s more details about it: In the 1980’s, 90’s, and into the 2000’s there was a weekly buy & sell rag named The Recycler published in SoCal. It came out every Thursday morning, sold at convenience and liquor stores, and was ful...

@rpeluso: Damn, did I forget that, or never knew?!

@yeti42: Interesting nomination of the Townshend Rock table (a cult component if there ever was one). I got mine in ’91 from a U.S. dealer, paid $650. I use a Zeta arm on mine, a favorite combo with Rock aficionados. And a London (post-Decca) p...
Jim Gordon has Passed On...
Damn. I just got home from a day out and about, and saw the heading of this post in my emails. I’m sure there will shortly be remembrances about Jim from Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock (organist/singer/songwriter of Derek & The Dominos, player a...
Is a FLAT response the IDEAL?
I guess I'll go first. ;-) As just one example of your misunderstanding: the RIAA curve is not used "to fix the problems of hearing that itself is not flat." I could explain what the RIAA curve is and why it is used, but a simple Google search wi...

@avsjerry: That pic is with the front grill frame & cloth removed. With it in place, the LFT-8 looks no worse than do Maggies. Not pretty, but not horrible.

Thanks @wsrrsw: Thanks, I hadn’t seen that write-up on the TRW-17.   @uncledemp: Though "normal" recordings made in studios are limited in very low frequency content, some recordings made in very large "rooms"---cathedrals and churches, large...

Title of a Spacemen 3 album: Taking Drugs To Make Music To Take Take Drugs To. ;-) I was into Psychedelic music only fairly briefly: from the Summer of ’67 (I saw The Grateful Dead and The Airplane live that Summer) until the Summer of ’69. In th...
