Some Musical Truths
Dan Hicks: "How can I miss you when you won't go away".Harlan Howard & Bobby Braddock: "God may forgive you (but I won't)".B. Dylan: "We're idiots babe, it's a wonder we can even feed ourselves".
The Band: S/T and/or Music from the Big Pink
Oh (not him again!), one other detail ya'll may (or may not ;-) find interesting: The distinct and huge difference in the sound of the snare drum heard on MFBP vs. the brown album is not from the room, the manner of recording, or anything of that ...
Short speaker cable recommendation
Is Belden 8402 usable balanced? My main inter-connect (between pre and power) is balanced, standard three pin. Doesn't that require co-ax cable? Is the Belden two-conductor with shield?
The Band: S/T and/or Music from the Big Pink
I just again watched the clip of Clapton and Harrison talking about Music From Big Pink. Here's the great quote about it from Eric: "I listened to this album (MFBP), and I thought, this is it---this is where music was supposed to have gone for a l...
Scratches on acrylic platter Clearaudio Emotion
The circles could be from the polishing of the surface during manufacture. You could try to remove them with the Novus plastic products.
My apologies to all...
I didn't see the post or the reaction to it, but I know from hanging at Brooks Berdan's shop on Saturdays that some audiophiles will spend great sums of money to maximize their system's capabilities in that one area---"soundstaging". The obsession...
Why Don't More People Love Audio?
The Hi-Fi "generations" (those music lovers who desire/d and are/were willing to pay for good sound, born no later than, say, the 1960's) were looking to get their recordings to sound as much like live music as possible. Music lovers born after th...
The Band: S/T and/or Music from the Big Pink
The 2nd (S/T, "brown") album has less separation between instruments than MFBP because The Band set up in Sammy's cabana casually, with all the instruments in that one room, only gobos (floor-standing acoustical partitions) separating the drums, p...
The Band: S/T and/or Music from the Big Pink
Oh, and by the way.....Neil Young's Harvest album is Neil trying to sound like the Brown Album. He ditched Crazy Horse, and put together a good band with a Southern rhythm section. Drummer Kenneth Buttrey played in the same style as Levon, and als...
The Band: S/T and/or Music from the Big Pink
Wolf, I just saw your above posting from 6-30 (I don't know how I missed it before!), and know all too well what you mean about The Band being bad news for musicians in the late 60's, Clapton included. I've tried to help non-musicians understand j...
Better than the Project Carbon TT for $ 500.00
Or you could replace the LP's with CD's and just get out of the analog game altogether.
Is the Townshend Rock 7 "the" giant killer?
The whole LP/cartridge/arm/platter/table/phono-amp system is very resonant and microphonic. The Rock turntable is one approach to making it less so. Damping is and has been used in lots of LP playing products, usually tonearms, including SME, Well...
overwhelmed by record rituals
Unfortunately Ebm, my LP's don't fit in my CD player's drawer.
overwhelmed by record rituals
In some cases, I play the LP before putting it on my VPI. I deep clean only "keepers"---going through the process for an LP I don't keep is a giant waste, both of time (as Moonglum suggests, my remaining days grow short!) and resources.
looking at upgrading my tonearm from a triplanar
Ralph, your mention of the hardness of the bearings in the Triplanar brings to mind a couple of questions for me. Could you give us your design engineer's perspective on the following?- What is the significance of the hardness of a tonearm's beari...
