It Was 40 Years Ago Today...
I loved ABBA (still do!), and no one who knows me could understand why. It was a new experience for me, being part of the audience of a big-selling mainstream entertainment act. Most of my favorites are cult-level artists, but then there's AC/DC t...
Quad 2905 ESL Arcing Sparks
New panels every few years comes with Quad ownership, it seems. With the old 57's even more so! Mine are in storage, replaced by Eminent Technology Magnetic-Planars (like Maggies, but double sided magnets for push-pull operation, like ESL's).
Rock: well recorded bass...60s/70s
There is a really great clip on You Tube of Clapton talking about The Band and what he thought when he heard Music From Big Pink. That hearing resulted in Eric's disbanding (ha) Cream. It's funny, because when I finally got The Band (took about a ...

Cream Progressive? I never heard them characterized as such. They were considered a Blues/Jazz Band, both music's (and Cream) heavy on improvisation (Progressive is certainly not, being very structured and produced, IMO). I saw them live twice, li...

Ha---Blue Cheer! Considered the worst Group we had ever heard. Painfully poor musicianship, laughably bad, with no redeeming qualities to counter-balance that failing. The lamest version of "Summertime Blues" imaginable. The Who's wasn't very good...
Well Tempered Signature turntable and arm
I love Elliot. Bought his demo Atma-Sphere M-60's right as he was giving up the line, when he still had the storefront. A really principled, ethical guy.
How did you contract "Audiophilia"
Though I was already into mass-market Hi-Fi (AR table and speakers), it was hearing an electrostatic tweeter (an RTR, in the ESS Transtatic I---pre-Heil) that blew my little mind. It was 1971, and the Transtatic's were hooked up to an ARC SP-2 and...
It Was 40 Years Ago Today...
Artistic merit versus success is an argument as old as Art itself. So is taste. Though Dylan can be considered to be perhaps the most influential Pop music figure of just about everyone (he certainly is for Bruce, as he was for Lennon), some don't...

Ghosthouse---Loomisjohnson is absoluely correct. In the 70's it was cool to find Prog rock uncool, especially amongst the influential New York critics. The whole Punk movement was often said to be a reaction against it. Of course, fans of Prog may...

Thanks Bill, I'll start looking around seriously now.
Beveridge speakers-does anyone still use them?
Roger Modjeski of Music Reference was very involved with the design and manufacture of the Beveridge speakers. I'm sure he can aid anyone needing help with any of them.

Bill, if you happen to hear of (or acquire yourself!) a clean copy of an RL cut lime green brown album, let me know, ay? Thanks---E

I so wish John Entwistle's live sound had been captured on tape. It was ASTOUNDING! No recording of him comes close to what he sounded like on stage.

Courant---Okay, you got me! I had a momentary loss of reasoning, not noticing that my nomination of The Ramones as the number one influence since The Beatles applies only to my taste, not to R & R history. I have long thought that Led Zeppelin...
Magnepan 1.7 to 3.7i or Pass Labs XA60.5 to X100.5
Not many people seem to be aware that there is an Open Baffle/Dipole sub available from the two companies who developed it together, GR Research and Rythmik Audio. It has won "Best Bass at the Show" for many consecutive years at the Rocky Mountain...
