Fidelity Research FR-64 vs. FR-54
dover, Lewm may want a heavier counterweight because with the light one he has, even with it positioned all the way back on the cw stub, the arm still can not achieve the tracking force his cartridge requires---the front end of the arm, that ahead...
For a quick good time, blankets...
Sonex also decomposes over time, leaving a crumbling, gooey mess. Terrible stuff that I still see in recording studios occasionally.
Mystery of the Disappearing Frequency
Do a Google search for room modes/nodes. You can find sites depicting rooms in 3-D, showing where m/n are located in the room, depending on it's dimensions. You can put in your rooms dimensions, and the 3-D display will show where the modes/nodes ...
Looking at a new non-SACD player, but still own lots of SACDs
The Marantz SA8005 looks pretty nice, but does not have balanced/XLR output. If you want or need that, ModWright also mods the Sony XA-5400ES, which does. The Sony is out-of-production, but available second-hand for around a grand. ModWright charg...
KT88 tubes for Monos
Wow skipping, $489 for a quartet of the Fuller KT88, about twice the price of the Gold Lion. They'd better be good!

What's your current SACD player? The Esoteric DV-50s SACD player goes for around $1500 used, and is built like a tank. It has a digital out.
KT88 tubes for Monos
The Genalex Gold Lion KT88 is a great tube. Kevin at Upscale Audio tests and matches pairs and quartets, and sells them at a great price.
Best divorce album?
The Last Waltz.
What is the worst recorded CD you have?
Arturo Toscanini conducting the NBC Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Great performance of course (with Robert Shaw handling the Chorus), but the sound is like that of a bootleg---terrible! There are more recent CD's of the recording...
Zeta
Ah, that explains the tense. I'll have to look at mine, to see if it has four or five bearings. Mine came missing one of the counterweight inserts, so I put in some lead weights in it's place. A great idea, the adjustable counterweight mass via in...
LONDON Decca, Tzar DST and similar cartridges
I'm green with envy, Billy. To get a Tzar (spelled it correctly this time ;-) of my own, that's what I need more of---green!
Do you have a secret "guilty pleasure" recording?
I love ABBA! Great songs, singing, and production. Agnetha's solo albums are swell too. She does a killer version of Jackie DeShannon's "When You Walk In The Room". Pure Pop pleasure!
I'm melting!!
$900 for four rubber/plastic feet?! A set of Townshend Audio Seismic Isolation Pods cost less than that, and provide real isolation, unlike rubber/plastic feet.
Boulder monoblock 2150
Absolutely Erik (love it spelled with a k. Wish my parents had, instead of a c). Also important for the soul of a country imo. I'm reading a great book right now, a biography of Leonard Bernstein written by Humphrey Burton. Bernstein is quoted hea...
Evaluating a system - what do you listen for?
Whomever knows a guy with a real good analogue recorder---even the reasonably priced Revox A77, plus some condenser microphones, arrange for him to make you a recording of live acoustic music, the event at which you will be present. Listen attenti...
