I'll Take "Songs About People" for $200
Not Robbie Robertson, onhwy61. He’s a capitalist through and through, and doesn't believe in sharing the wealth ;-). Maybe Rick Danko---he found and rented BP, in which he, Richard Manuel, and Garth Hudson lived (Levon Helm was still in the Gulf, ...
25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago. What does it mean?
What does it mean? It means you’re taking Robert Lamm (the songs writer) way yonder too seriously. ;-)
What are the smallest speakers that are clean and flat down to 20hz?
Gotta be the single-panel Maggies, Wolf. But the old 3-panel Tympanis have plenty of bass, and of a very high quality There are people using the two bass panels of Tympanis as woofers, and even as subs!QUAD ESL’s have even less bass than Maggies, ...
Best female vocal recording on CD?
Oh yeah, Mary Gauthier is a fairly new discovery of mine. I have a couple albums of hers, still have to get the one produced by T-Bone Burnett.
Magneplanar MG 3.6 / R
Check with the guys over at the MUG forum (Magneplanar Users Group). It's part of the Planar Speaker Asylum.
Thorens TD 150 super rebuild
Hey Ray, have any of the carbon fiber left over? Any interest in cutting a tonearm mounting board out of it and make a little $?
How do the Elac Uni-Fi UB5s compare to more expensive bookshelf speakers?
Plus, LS50’s are readily available used for around $1000. The UB5 is really built to a price point, using pretty crappy parts and cheap enclosures. Strictly a low-budget product.
Who is the WORST Audio Shop?
Anyone who has attended CES has seen Andy Singer strutting round with his chest puffed out, apparently considering himself a rock star. Embarrassing.
KT88 tubes for Monos
That blue DOES look mighty cool. By the way, I just started playing with a couple of guys (guitar and bass) who, though not audiophiles, know all about Telefunken and Bugle Boys, using them in their Fender amps, both vintage and new. They even kno...

Empty toilet paper roll cardboard tube on end!
Fidelity Research FR-64 vs. FR-54
dover, Lewm may want a heavier counterweight because with the light one he has, even with it positioned all the way back on the cw stub, the arm still can not achieve the tracking force his cartridge requires---the front end of the arm, that ahead...
For a quick good time, blankets...
Sonex also decomposes over time, leaving a crumbling, gooey mess. Terrible stuff that I still see in recording studios occasionally.
Mystery of the Disappearing Frequency
Do a Google search for room modes/nodes. You can find sites depicting rooms in 3-D, showing where m/n are located in the room, depending on it's dimensions. You can put in your rooms dimensions, and the 3-D display will show where the modes/nodes ...
Looking at a new non-SACD player, but still own lots of SACDs
The Marantz SA8005 looks pretty nice, but does not have balanced/XLR output. If you want or need that, ModWright also mods the Sony XA-5400ES, which does. The Sony is out-of-production, but available second-hand for around a grand. ModWright charg...
KT88 tubes for Monos
Wow skipping, $489 for a quartet of the Fuller KT88, about twice the price of the Gold Lion. They'd better be good!
