Does anyone use wood for vibration control?
All one has to do to see evidence of the ability of a well-designed spring system to provide true isolation is to watch on You Tube the videos Max Townshend (a real mechanical engineer, if you care about such matters ;-) has made to promote his Se...
What's Your Fantasy Supergroup?
John Hiatt already did the job for me, when he picked Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe, and Jim Keltner to help him make his Bring The Family album. Just as people are known by the friends they keep, singers and songwriters are by the musicians they surround ...
Bobbie Gentry or Dusty Springfield?
This may be unfair on my part, but for whatever reason I view Bobbie as an entertainer, Dusty an artist. What's the difference, and what is the criteria for making that judgment? I don't possess the skill to put it into words, but, as they say, I ...
Replacement Amp For Audio Research Classic 60
ARC owners love their Ref 75SE. Something to consider is that the output tubes in a power amp put out a LOT of heat, and the more space you allow above the amp will be rewarded with longer life for the amp in general. 8" may not be enough.
Well maybe it IS my hearing
@jrpride did I what I see happening all the time in social media: taking a comment from another and mischaracterizing it to mean something that was neither stated nor even implied. To see what I'm talking about, read my original comment above, the...
Top five live Rock And Roll Albums
Nice list @larryi. The Last Waltz is required listening (if only for the songs with Van Morrison and Muddy Waters), but anyone not wanting to have to hear Neil Diamond (he was there only because Robbie Robertson was at the time producing an album ...
Under speakers Vibrapod or Gaïa
GAIA are sold in sets of four. I'm considering getting a set of the model 2 (which support up to 120 lbs. when used in quads) for my Sound Anchor speaker stands, but they are a 3-point design. If anyone else needs only 6 GAIA's for his/her speaker...
Well maybe it IS my hearing
For anyone prepared for a rather depressing shock, do have your ears tested by an audiologist, and look at the printout of the results; it's not pretty. But here's the thing: we hear reproduced music with the same ears we hear live. Within the fre...
Why the fascination with subwoofers?
@clio09, I think of bass reproduction in terms of leanness vs. plumpness. I’ve worked some with upright bass players, so have heard them up close in all kinds of acoustic environments. I have also heard them from the audience side, both unmic’ed a...

I skipped Lucinda's Live At The Fillmore album when it was released, but got it after seeing it on this thread. It's fantastic!
New Townshend Rock 7 owner
The U.S. distributor of Townshend does the same for Helius, and he always had a Helius Omega mounted on the Rock at hi-fi shows. It's real good arm that doesn't get much attention. The older Heliuses got a bad reputation, but the Omega's a differe...
Best song for immediate impact when presenting or testing?
I saw Hiatt on his Slow Turning tour, and he and his band were fantastic. He had Sonny Landreth, a superb slide guitarist, in his band then. Sonny's solo albums are mighty fine too.
What equipment have you bought this year so far ?
@phomchick, we’re of the same generation. While scraping the money together to upgrade from my first loudspeakers, the AR 4x, I set my sights on the Rectilinear III, which I preferred to the AR 3a (too veiled and soft), the JBL L-100 (too colored,...
Under speakers Vibrapod or Gaïa
The real choice is between the GAIA and the Townshend Audio Seismic Pod products.
Top five live Rock And Roll Albums
Lots of great nominees, some of which will be duplicated here. I don't know that these are "the" best live R & R albums, but they'll do for starters.- The Band: Live At The Academy Of Music 1971. A great boxset.- Dylan & The Band: Before T...
