Spiking speakers not designed for spikes?
Though solid cement floors are less resonant than are suspended wood ones, they are still plagued by seismic vibrations. Spiking is so 20th Century ;-).
My speakers are set. Magnepan Tympani IVs
Right George, the Tympani bass and midbass is really something: very "percussive", taut. They do a drumset like nothing else I’ve heard. An aptly named loudspeaker! ;-) They "go" lower than do many cone woofers (the two bass panels compromise a co...

Good luck finding a pair of JC1's or a Gryphon for $2,000! What CAN be done at that price is a cheap high-powered amp on the bass panels, and a better amp on the m/t (that Maggie ribbon tweeter reveals any grain or hardness in an amp). Bi-amping r...

What's a real good arm for a Decca Cartridge?
Touche', @noromance. What I should have said is that if you have a Decca (is the op's a Decca, or a London?) in an SME, and you have mistracking, I would suspect the cartridge before the arm. Not all Deccas mistrack, but they are well known to not...
Who is an audiphile? In 1957 they were builders, not buyers
Audi's are okay, but I prefer BMW's ;-) .

@kythyn, great price on the T-IV’s! They’re worth about twice what you paid for them. I have a pair of T-IVa’s (I sold my IV’s a year ago, but not for $1k ;-), and if at all possible, yes, bi-amp them. But to do so well will cost you more than $2,...
What brand was better than it is today?
Quad, when they were make in England. In contrast,, the London cartridges are better in every way than the Deccas were.
Fan on Amp Unbeatable
What a clever little fan @n80! I'm gettin' me some.
My experience adding subwoofers to 2 channel
@clio09, are you sure the $12,000 price is with the d-d amps? I stated that a few months ago in another thread, and you informed me that was incorrect, the $12k was for the panels and subs, the d-d amps were an added-cost option. If the price incl...

Whats on your turntable tonight?
@reubent: Right?! Costello does Americana. It's my favorite of his, I have it on a UK F-Beat label pressing in good sound. Produced by T Bone, with the superlative rhythm section of Jim Keltner and Jerry Scheff in place of Costello's usual pedestr...
What's a real good arm for a Decca Cartridge?
@dhcod: Are you certain it is the arm not the cartridge that is responsible for the mistracking? The current London’s are better in that regard than were the Decca’s, but tracking remains the design’s major failing. The SME has long been considere...
Helmhotz resonators for audiophile at almost no cost and without calculus...
I participated in a recording with a nutty songwriter who wrote out the "sheet music" for every participant, each of us having a number of bottles placed in front of us. Each bottle was filled to a level such that the unfilled volume created a spe...

@clio09, thanks for the correction and clarification.
