Do we ask too much of our audio systems? As Geoff states, at best a system can only reproduce that which is on the recording. Though I am as guilty as most of ya’ll, the amount of effort and $ invested in our hi-fi’s is comical in view of the quality of most recordings. The vast majority...
Most amusing album or song titles Not an amusing album or song title, but an amusing story involving one:I was in Bleeker Bobs NYC record store in '82, looking for a copy of the female Rockabilly LP entitled Wild, Wild Young Women on Rhino Records. Bob had just told me he didn't h...
Hinged Dust Cover for VPI Scout As the Scout is a non-suspended sub-chassis table, bolting a big dustcover to the plinth is a not good idea, in theory at least. Lots of Audiogoners don’t even like a dc bolted onto the base of their suspended sub-chassis tables.

Whats on your turntable tonight? @boxer12, the Old & In The Way album is in fantastic sound quality, isn’t it?! It’s original release was on the audiophile label Acoustic Disc. I used it as audition material back in the ’70’s. T Bone Burnett’s Truth Decay on Takoma does too (...
40th Anniversary Pre Amp and Repair History An ARC lasting 20 or 30 years? At the risk of.....oh, never mind ;-) .
Instrument Flight Rules? Given the construction quality of Magnepan loudspeakers (no offense, I own a pair), it is more likely the 3.7i than the amp.
What do you think causes the crackle and clicks we hear? The Zerostat has always been a pain to use, and only marginally effective. I replaced it with a Nagaoka Kilavolt No. 103 (no longer in production) years ago, and now also have a Furutech Destat III. Both are much better than the 'stat.
families of audio concepts, mixing, and listening @paulburnett, you left out the speaker that embarrassed all others when it was introduced in 1957, and was not equaled for many, many years, and then in only some ways: the Quad ESL.
Whats on your turntable tonight? @spiritofradio, speaking of Johnny, he and Rodney share vocals on a track on the latter’s The Houston Kid album, "I Walk The Line (Revisited)", with Johnny singing the parts of the original worked into the new song. Very cool! Johnny was of course...
Whats on your turntable tonight? Tarpaper Sky by the always dependable Rodney Crowell. Great songs, singing, and musicianship (he has a great band). As for SQ, the drums and guitars sound pretty good, but for some reason this New West album doesn't sound quite as good in other wa...
Most amusing album or song titles "Happiness Is A Warm Gun." Ted Nugent's favorite Lennon song.
Looking for an acoustic engineer or specialist Art Noxon at Acoustic Sciences Corporation (ASC), the maker of the well known Tube Traps. Art does consultation work from his facility in Oregon, for both professional recording studios and home listening rooms. I've been in one of his rooms (that...
Tune of the Day Hearing a new true Rock ’n’ Roll song is a rarity these days. If you crave that music, you will find "Frankie Please" on Rodney Crowell’s excellent 2014 Tarpaper Sky album. The piano playing on the song is in the Jerry Lee Lewis/Little Richard sty...
Does anyone collect something else other than music. I know a couple of guys who collect ex-wives.I'm like @edcyn, except for vintage drums and cymbals. 18 drumsets (Radio King, Slingerland, Gretsch, Camco, Rogers, Leedy, Leedy/Ludwig, Ludwig, WFL), around double that in snare drums (including a cou... |
