The musical wisdom of Ry Cooder.
Lucky kids to have such a hip Dad, @sfar! And you a lucky Dad to have such cool kids.
The musical wisdom of Ry Cooder.
Yeah @tooblue, a musician honest enough to admit a mistake, and big enough to acknowledge his influences and praise those he admires and owes a debt to. It's no secret a lot of musicians have a huge ego, perhaps a result of deep insecurity. Not Ry.
The musical wisdom of Ry Cooder.
@marqmike, the A Meeting By The River album is one of the best recordings I've ever heard. Ry did the first digitally-recorded Pop (non-Classical) album---Bop Til You Drop, and hated the sound (it's great musically, however). When he heard a Water...

An arch top Gibson @tomic601, not a guitar Ry is known to play. Wonder where that pic was taken. In the interview he states he has about 50 guitars to his name. Guitarists are lucky, they don't take up much room. My collection of 20 vintage drumse...
What is ideal dimension size for a home listening room?
10' x 16' x 26'.
Tune of the Day
Here’s a timely yet timeless song: "Vigilante Man", written by Woody Guthrie. Being born too late to have heard his recordings when they were contemporary, I heard the song first by my (and a lot of musicians I know) favorite guitarist, Ry Cooder....
the dB/octave specification of the crossover?
For a nice explanation of crossover design, watch the GR Research Tech Talk Tuesday videos on YouTube. Danny Richie explains it all, in language we non-engineers can understand. His videos cover a lot of loudspeaker design topics, a few of them sp...
An Odd Question
Weren’t there "good people" on both sides (Allies, Germany/Japan)? ;-)
speaker xover design/testing
Danny Richie at GR Research. He does x/o work for commercial companies, his own products of course (DIY loudspeaker and sub kits), and consumers.
Justin Townes Earle RIP
OMG. It's awful when a father outlives his son. Our condolences, Steve. I sure hope it wasn't a drug overdose; Steve himself is a recovering addict.
Whats playing on your system today?
ABBA are imo seriously under-rated. Bjorn and Benny are excellent songwriters (in a long ago interview, Flo & Eddie declared them better than Brian Wilson!), Agnetha and Anni-Frid good singers. I own their complete catalog, and some of the gir...
Which SACDs?
Oh, and Mobile Fidelity has issued a lot of The Band's albums on SACD. The 2nd album ("brown") sounds the best, and is many people's favorite musically. If you like that one, get the 1st (Music From Big Pink) next.
Tune of the Day
Yeah @reubent, imo Them are under-rated. As a band (ignoring songwriting), I think they and The Kinks were the best of the British Invasion (Manfred Mann perhaps third), and Van Morrison the best singer (followed by Eric Burton and Paul Jones). I ...
Options for ridding records of static electricity
IF the OP wants to continue using the Linn's stock felt mat, the Furutech DeStat III is imo the best solution for static. Much better than the Zerostat, but considerably more dough. Not ridiculous though---under $300 I believe (I got mine for less...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
@slaw, I've been wondering about the Springfield box. They are one of my faves from the 66-68 period (my senior year high school band did a couple of their songs), but the SQ of their three albums is pretty mediocre. Does the box provide their rec...
