Cost of state of the art?
The classic recording of this work is by Janos Starker, very difficult to find in it’s original Mercury Records LP pressing in good condition. When you do, it is very expensive. There are two superb reissues currently available: a 4-LP set done by ...
What are the current useless terms in this "audio world"
Vinyls. Vinyl (singular) is fine, vinyls (plural) not. An LP is made of vinyl (actually, PVC---poly vinyl chloride), but an LP in not a "vinyl".
Which subwoofer?
@lewinskih01: Your question has me confused. After stating "So he's using F12's up to 40Hz", you then ask "Do you happen to know how high he crosses over to the F12G's?" Aren't those the same? Or am I not seeing what you're asking? You're not diffe...
Marty Stuart on Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers:
@orgillian197: You are correct in the literal sense about The Band being not American (or at least 4 of the 5 members weren't), but I above explained my admittedly thin excuse for overlooking that fact. ;-) Isn't it ironic, then, that The Band are...
Which subwoofer?
@ewinskih01: Danny Richie uses a pair of OB subs in the front of his room and a pair of F12G's in the rear (in both his company's listening room and at hi-fi shows), the F12's in phase opposite that of the the OB's. I believe he uses 40Hz as the x...
Thank God for Chad Kassem.
Hi @hotel. I too have the DCC Pet Sounds LP, as well as their gold disc CD of the album, both mastered by Steve Hoffman.Kevin Gray was years ago hired by Capitol Records to produce a new stereo mix of Pet Sounds, and he worked side-by-side with Br...

Nicks or McVie.....
By the way:There is a pic somewhere on the 'net of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham on stage at Mother Butler High School in San Jose, California, when the two were members of local group "Fritz". The pic was taken in 1967, I believe, and Stevi...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Speaking of The Cate Bothers: On one of Levon Helm’s post-The Band tours the brothers were the core of his band. Levon was at the time recovering from his throat cancer surgery (heavy smoker), so wasn’t singing. The Cate’s filled in, as did Levon’...
Nicks or McVie.....
Ha! I have for years associated Nicks' singing with not a billy goat, but rather sheep. Baaah. There is a female singer I was in a band with in the late-70's who now does a Stevie Nicks tribute act. Corporate-type gigs, which pay well. I've never u...
My Apologies to Miller Carbon
Wow, six posts removed (one from me). Wonder what I missed!
New speakers dilemma for vinyls... Heeelp! :)))
Vinyls? Um, they're called LP's. Or records. ANYTHING but vinyls, for gawd's sake.
Current deals to good to pass up!
Right here on Audiogon: a pair of GR Research NX Studio Monitors, asking price $1500. They will of course continue to be ignored. Pearls before swine (no offense intended ;-) .
For ARC lovers, Problems?
My sister's new boyfriend is getting rid of his 6-series BWM because of the cost of maintenance (I did the same with my 528e, for the same reason). I couldn't help but relate that to the cost of owning ARC electronics.ARC enthusiasts, please don't...
Marty Stuart on Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers:
Ha! Yeah, but The Attractions are on only a coupla songs, which I skip. ;-) Just kidding. I loved Costello’s debut (I got the UK Stiff Records import before it was released stateside), not knowing at the time the band was comprised of members of C...
