Nicks or McVie..... By the way: Many years later Keltner, Tutt, and Scheff also appear on Elvis Costello's King Of America album, to my taste his best.
Tune of the Day Thanks @slaw and @tubegb, that LP is now in my search for notebook. Now here's one for ya'll: Nick Lowe is of course a member of Little Village, and in 1980 was a member of another super-group, Rockpile. I consider the lone Rockpile album (though t...
Cost of state of the art? Ya can't please 'em all. ;-)
Audio companies or boutique labels for good SQ LPs? @mglik: Just be aware---I don't think Better Recrods can provide you with a White Hot Stamper LP of anything on Audioquest, Vandersteen, or Water Lily. The A Meeting By The River not only features excellent recorded sound quality (the label's owner...
New speakers dilemma for vinyls... Heeelp! :))) @kennyc: Actually, we are in agreement. My post in this thread did not mention "vinyl", but rather "vinyls". In another thread I addressed the issue of the difference between the singular and plural usage of the term vinyl in relation to LP’s, and...
Nicks or McVie..... Just today I learned the musicians who appear on the 1973 Buckingham Nicks album include Jim Keltner and Ron Tutt on drums and Jerry Scheff on bass. Damn it, another album I must now acquire.
Marty Stuart on Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: A quote attributed to many master Jazz musicians---Miles Davis, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington to name just three---goes "The Notes you don't play are as important as those you do." I consider that essential musical wisdom.I've been watching Jack...
Next step in Turntable The HW-19 Mk.2 has a floating subchassis composed of a bottom layer of steel top with a 1/2" split-slab of acrylic (the split between the larger piece onto which the platter bearing is bolted, onto the smaller the tonearm), and a 1" Delrin platter...
Marty Stuart on Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers: Let’s just think of (U.S.A.) Americans and Canadians as North Americans. ;-) . I would argue that in some ways Americans from the North (or at least non-South) have more in common with Canadians than they do with Southerners.Levon Helm---born and ...
Which subwoofer? @lewinskih01;By jove, I think you have it! 18" woofers have gained favour amongst OB enthusiasts because of their higher max-SPL characteristics in comparison to smaller woofers (and 15" for the same reason). Open baffle woofer design results in l...
Next step in Turntable @unreceivedogma: Now get yourself the VPI SAMA (Stand Alone Motor), and you’ll be set! And if you can find a TNT-3/4 platter (a bottom section of 7/8" aluminum with a plate of cork-covered lead inserted into it’s bottom side, topped with a 5/8" la...
What speaker has the best tweeter? Magnepan owners (and others) think very highly of that company’s current ribbon tweeter, used in the MG3.7i, 20.7, and 30.7. The long-discontinued Tympani T-IV and T-IVa also used an earlier incarnation of basically the same driver. The Townshend A...
Free in-home testing? Rythmik: Returns allowed for 45 days, but customer pays return shipping, which on a hundred lb. sub is not inconsiderable. I have never heard of Rythmik deducting for fingerprints on the enclosure though. ;-)
Audio companies or boutique labels for good SQ LPs? Audioquest, Vandersteen, and Water Lily (get the album A Meeting By The River, guitar by Ry Cooder). You mention Sheffield: have you ever heard a direct-to-disc LP? Find one, any one!Back in the 1970’s FMI (Fulton Musical Industries) produced some...
recording to Reel to Reel directly from "preamp out" For best SQ, it's better to plug the source component directly into the reel-to-reel if and when possible (if your integrated contains your RIAA phono stage, obviously not). Not convenient, but if you don't do it often not that big a deal. |
