Poor grammar is disappointing and decidedly distracting in formal audio reviews.
I very much like the above post by @douglas_schroeder, with the exception of one statement:"Also, as a Christian I intend to show that I put a great deal of thought into my articles and wish for them to be high quality."There are a couple of adjec...
Stacking gear no more rack space does it affect sound quality
By the way, Michael Percy Audio (whose website @rodman99999 posted above) is a great source for a lot of hi-fi accessories.
Great Recordings, Sonically Speaking - and Why.
Yes @thecarpathian, and correctly so. It is also often mis-pronounced tim-ber by the musically uneducated (no offense intended) . Timber! is what you yell when a tree has been felled. ;-)
Millercarbon's Mega Moab Mod Meander
Damn, that’s a lot of x/o parts!By the way, my turntables/speakers/electronics compress the Townshend Seismic Pods under them to about exactly the same degree as yours do under yours. I have found I prefer using slightly lower weight rated Pods th...
Tune of the Day
Now THAT’S interesting, @slaw. Though originally a hit for Dave Dudley, the first version of "Six Days On The Road" I heard was that by Taj Mahal in ’69. The guys I was musically involved with then started performing it live shortly thereafter; al...
Considering a POSSIBLE replacement for speakers. Opinions?
@mijostyn: Ah yes, but there is a cure for the one weakness in the ET LFT-8b (ignoring in this discussion it's inefficiency, which is actually not as severe as are Maggies. I have both.)---the matter of mating the planar m/t drivers with a monopol...
Marty Stuart on Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers:
@zerofox: Petty was great on that Shandling episode! (I miss Gary a lot) Tom's a not bad actor. I loved when he referred to fellow-guest Clint Black as Roy Rogers. ;-)
How to remove scotch tape brown residue from album covers
I repeat, though I don't know why I bother ;-) : Bestine was created specifically to dissolve rubber cement. "Scotch tape brown residue" = rubber cement. Capiche?
Which subwoofer?
GR Research has many planar loudspeaker owners (myself included) who have found musical happiness with any one of their subs. Look into the model F-12G, designed in collaboration with Danny Richie of GR Research (hence the "G" in the model designa...
Best midranges...
The VMPS "planar midrange driver" mentioned about was actually invented, designed, and manufactured by Bruce Thigpen of Eminent Technology. Bruce named it the LFT (Linear Field Transducer), and it is available today in his marvelous LFT-8b loudspe...
Blues for Aficionados
If you aren't adverse to CD's, try to find a copy of Up The Line by The Gary Smith Blues Band. Gary is very well known in the San Francisco Bay Area Blues scene, and has the best harp tone I've ever heard, bar none. His mentor was Charlie Mussellw...
Millercarbon's Mega Moab Mod Meander
When Danny Richie builds replacement crossovers for loudspeakers sent him, he sometimes mounts the new x/o board on the outside of the rear of the enclosure, rather than back inside. That is in some instances necessitated by the much larger size o...
Subwoofer options for Magnepan with crossover betwen pre and amp?
@michel1980: Head over to the GR Research website (and their AudioCircle Forum) and check out the OB/Dipole Sub. THE sub for use with Tympani’s (and all other dipole loudspeakers, for that matter), unless you have room for a pair of Tympani T-IV t...
Distributed Bass Array configuration
One thing to keep in mind: if you are using a sub (or four) with---I would certainly hope ;-) ---a low-pass filtered signal as its/their source, well, what is the slope of that filter? If only 6dB/octave (1st-order, as with the Vandersteen subs), ...
Recommendations for speakers that sound great at lower volume levels.
Quite true @terry9. That's a result of the Fletcher-Munson characteristics of human hearing, not the Quad ESL itself. Of course, a speaker with more bass output at higher levels will have that at lower levels too, relative the Quad.
