2022 is almost here. Why are you here? For the music threads. Though an audiophile site, the music threads make wading through the rest worth it. The participants are much more hip than are the guys who hang around hi-fi shops. To paraphrase an old expression, you are what you listen t...
2022 Audio System Wish List and thoughts about streaming @slaw: Excellent Steve! Since you have a set of Pods built into your Townshend Rock 7 table you are already somewhat familiar with them. The podiums are quite an investment, so those who have been contemplating their purchase will be interested in...
Share albums where EVERY SINGLE song is good Some of mine already listed, but not The Houston Kid by Rodney Crowell (which really needs to be issued on LP). Did I miss any of Randy Newman’s early albums, Good Old Boys in particular? IMO very, very few bands have produced perfect albums, as ...
Whats on your turntable tonight? @reubent: Classic Records also issued Girlfriend (12 tracks on a single disc, mastered I believe by Bernie Grundman), as well as Matthew’s Altered Beast, Blue Sky on Mars, and 100% Fun albums. My copies aren’t for sale ;-) . I have a coupla Inter...

New In 2022 Iris Dement’s debut album on LP, the Country title of the month (January) from Vinyl Me Please. I joined the subscription service just to get the LP (the album was released on CD only in 1992), adding the Irma Thomas album Down At Muscle Shoals (p...
Not sure Rumor or Truth that Max Townshend has passed? If so, another of the greats now gone. Roger Modjeski (Music Reference), Tim de Paravicini (EAR-Yoshino), and now (if true) Max. Without those three I wouldn't have my system!
Beautiful Music That Reduce You To Tears Great nomination @jpwarren58. I saw and heard Mary perform "Mercy Now" live a few months back. Fantastic!
"Transferred from original analogue master tapes" It depends on the company which is in possession of the masters, the company which is licensing the rights to those tapes, the mastering engineer, etc. Some record companies won’t let the masters out of their storage facility, providing the reissu...
Like Pronouns do we have to many music genres? I get a kick out of the very young music posters in the Vinyl Community on YouTube. They use genre names like "Shoe Gaze", "Jangle Pop", "Freak Folk", and many others. Some of them also organize their LP's by genre. Too complicated for me: I split...
Why not use a piece of silver wire instead of a jumper cable? If using a jumper to connect two sets of binding posts, connect your power amp cable to the tweeter posts. That way it is the woofer which sees the extra connections and jumper cable, not the tweeter.
Magnepan .7 vs 1.7 tech question? No @rankaudio, of the current Magnepans only the 3.7i, 20.7i, and 30.7 have ribbon tweeters. My Magneplanar Tympani T-IVa does as well, but has not been in production for decades. A lot of people---including Steve Guttenberg in his LRS review---in...
Pet Sounds: Most Overrated Album of All Time? @edcyn: Licorice Pizza! I knew the manager of their store on Sunset (very near the Tower store), and the bassist in my Pop group worked in the store on Topanga Canyon Blvd. That manager eventually got busted for dealing coke out of his office.
How to fuse bypass in Magnepan 1.7i The beauty of bypassing the fuse block is that it requires no permanent, irreversible mods (at least it didn't on my Tympani T-IVa). Just move the internal wires. Even if you very slightly enlarge the binding post holes to fit Cardas posts, the st...
Whats on your turntable tonight? The Milk Carton Kids were for me one of the highlights of the New Basement Tapes (along with Marcus Mumford). I do wish they were a little more like The Everly Brothers than Simon & Garfunkel, but then I’m more of a 50’s than a 60’s guy, and m... |
