What is nearfield listening?
It's when you position your speakers very, very close to you. Sort of like headphones but not, because they are in front of you. I think of it as w/i 4 ft from your seating position - but I'm not an authority.https://www.google.com/search?q=What+i...
Tube amps and loads.
I agree with Kijanki. Also, the load needs to be within range of the spec'd load for the amp. That is if the output tap is suppose to be 8 ohms, you should connect speakers that are close to 8 ohms (+/- 50% is probably fine depending on the amp). ...
How do you amp your system?
I have all Von Schweikert speakers, and all Electron Kinetics Eagle amps. Fronts are VR4 Gen III's vertically biamped using Eagle 4's, Center is a LCR15 driven from one channel (the other idles) of a Eagle 2C, and rears are CR3's driven by an Eagl...
b&k st 1400 or b&k st 125.2
if you already have the amp, you can just try it too. I have and found in all cases I preferred "single stereo" (even though I always have this nagging thought that I have a channel going to waste!)
b&k st 1400 or b&k st 125.2
the reason not to bridge is sonics. I don't understand the technical issues, but was told by 2 manufactures that amps designed for 2 channels are optimized for 2. When you bridge them they won't sound as good. So unless you need the power and you'...
Subs: sealed vs. ported
I use a Rel Storm III in one of my 2 channel systems - it's a ported design and sounds awesome.
b&k st 1400 or b&k st 125.2
I have the 125.2, and have had the st1400, and st1400ii. The 125.2 is excellent for that money, and the st1400ii is essentially the same amp - both are great for HT. I wouldn't go $240 for the older ST1400 amps. the B&K amps can't be bridged, ...
The one and only acoustic instrument?
probably guitar, if not piano.
What M/C for Clearaudio Satisfy Tonearm?
I had a Benz Glider installed on mine and it was fantastic.
Mellencamp vs. Seger vs. Springsteen
Dayglow - we just disagree - especially in regard to your statement of when they did their best work. Of course my mind set was "most prolific", not limited to just when you "were growing up". I think the difference is also a matter of musical tas...
Mellencamp vs. Seger vs. Springsteen
Neil Young is by far the most prolific Singer/Songwriter. He's still putting out great stuff (latest - "Psychedelic Pill" is great). Another is Van Morrison - still going strong. And another is Mark Knopfler - still going strong as well . . .
Can you plug a pre-amp into a pre-amp?
+1 I've done it too. It's a great way to use a good quality vintage phono preamp and a great remote controllable (or not) new line stage.
What is the benefit of a second amplifier .
2 mains next to eachother are thought to produce artifact by sound pressure cause the Mechans, can you elaborate on this - not sure what you mean. I thought there was one set of main speakers - being driven by one 2 channel amplifier, but using a ...
Seeking Advice on Stereo/HT Setup
It looks like your Cary preamp has HT Bypass, you simply connect your processor to the HT Bypass input s per Cary's instructions (I assume they have this. Your main front amp/speakers connect to the Cary preamp outs.
What is the benefit of a second amplifier .
This is a very complex discussion and how you go depends on how serious you are both from a sonics, and from a budget point of view. The guy you spoke to is partially correct I expect. If your processor does indeed bypass all of the digital when i...
