Does your system sound better or worse? That was good Marco. Now you got me thinking, I wonder what my system sounds like sober?
Amp for some new Gallos PsiiiIn reference to your reply Gallo ref speakers. In your post you alluded to problems reported with tube preamps when using class D amps. I have been having some problems with my class D amp. I have several different tube preamps I use with it....
Best stereo recievers of the 1970's? Ditto: Marantz 2270. Has pre out main in and a great tuner section to boot. All around great classic. Actually any of the Marantz 20XX or 22XX of the time period. These were when Sol Marantz was still in charge. I had a Fisher 500C along with a 22...
Best Tube Integrated I would keep my eye out for a Jadis Orchestra Reference, JOR, on Audigon which should come in under your "less than" $2K price point. I puts out about 50 WPC and particularly with KT 90 tubes has a lot of punch but still a lot of tube sweetness.
It's Hammond B3 Organ Day How about Groove Holms also in addition to Jimmy Smith! They had a Hammond B-3 organ venue as part of the week long Jazz festival at the Berks Jazz Festival (Reading, Pa.)several years ago with Joey and his Pappa John DiFrancesco and a female whos...
Phase switch on pre amp use? You will find that many high end preamps in particular will indicate that the preamp out is inverted phase. (And they do not have a switch to change it). This is due to circuit design philosophy, allowing a simpler circuit (read purer) in their op...
Unplugging / replugging Anti Cables Changes things Very curious indeed...Over the weekend I got the Signature version (from a fellow Audiogoner-so burn in should not be in play)of my current M III amp which per several reviews was said to be a significant improvement. When I replaced the M III wit...
Small, tube-friendly speaker suggestions needed I have a pair of Spendor S 3/5 (not the slightly more forward S 3/5 e) which I am driving with a small push pull EL 84 integrated (Jolida 102B with EH gold pin EL 84s and some cap upgdrades) in a small room with great results. If price is an objec...
Class-D amps - a different re view In answer to Jdillard.Yes most class D switching amps do use the B&O with the expeption of Spectron, which use their own proprietary module plus a lot of very high speed sampling/feedback plus a very large transformer. I have listened to the B...
Class-D amps - a different re view Addition to my above post:Take a look at mjfvashon and Platos comments above. The Bel Cantos in mjfvashons rig and the NuForce in Platos both let their superb front ends ie Bel Canto DAC-3 and 6Sn7 based pre respectively shine through. I drive my ...
Class-D amps - a different re view I am now driving my Magnepan 20Rs with a Spectron Musician III and previously a pair of Bel Canto ref 1000 monoblocs and both bested the big boy SS Class A and A/B amps that I have had in my system before.
Do you "treat" your speakers rubber surrounds? Hey Ehaller and Cytocycle:, Right On! I discovered 303 Protectant a few years ago (at a sailing shop) and use it on my vintage '98 993 Porsche Carrera dash and the Carrera is definitely worth more than my HiFi rig, so I definitely have had great s...
The planets have aligned Curious as to the rest of your system. Source/Pre/Amps etc? Regardless, whatever they are, I am happy for you. I just got a Spectron Musician III amp and a deHavilland Ultraverve pre and for the first time finally have heard what my Magnepan 20s a...
Best modern EL84 tube I have had great luck with the Electro Harmonix gold pin tubes. I have used them in my second system Jolida 102B integrated amp and my vintage integrated Scott EL 84 (6BQ5) based amp. |
