Solid core power cords under 300$ - List of manufacturers ?
DIY was brought up as an option, and romex was also brought up by at least one other...mainly, because romex IS an option. And definitely solid-core. As far as that goes, options would also be buying AC wire (same as in romex, just not in the extr...
Solid core power cords under 300$ - List of manufacturers ?
Regarding the safety of using romex:Solid wire made for electricity can take bending, and we DO bend it quite a bit installing it when we build, but obviously, it eventually would break. Wouldn't use it for say, a guitar amp that gets constantly p...
Solid core power cords under 300$ - List of manufacturers ?
Long time ago, I had a conversation with Mr. Chang of Lightspeed. His opinion was romex was the best. Makes sense when considering that's what is (often) in the wall, which he also mentioned. I made many, worked great. Sometimes a little improveme...
Why is Oppo stopping products.
Seems to me, there has to be other options other than Oppo. I am not the expert here, but my impression of my 205 is that it's REALLY good for the money, but I'm not sure it's the best at anything. Theta Prime II sounds at least as good for 2 ch, ...
How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
Honashagen:Since you have the Ayre there for use in your system, the relevant opinion is your's. We await the results of your evaluation.
How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
Clicking on the links provided, looks like really cool stuff. Well executed, sensible options, and nicely made. BTW- extrusions are pretty cheap. Maybe the most cost effective way to build a stiff, non-ferrous box. The designs strikes me as "smart...
How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
Not that I know anything about the Hatter, but I might ask where is the line we draw for the definition of "passive". After all, even a volume control is a resister, and thus, buffered in a sense (I know that's not buffered). Components besides th...
How much do I need to spend to get a preamp that sounds better than no preamp?
Been my experience that all components have a certain "burn in" period. It's been a long time, but I remember even swapping cables, there is still an amount of time that it keeps improving, even though it may have been burned in before.
Vinyl VS Digital
I'm a bit confused:Going "all" in for one doesn't mean having to give up the other. I can see not wanting to spend half on two as opposed to all on one. But why give up or get rid of something? Some choices just don't have to be made. One way to ma...
A question of Azimuth setting up turntable
Not sure how you can get a different adjustment/reading from headshell and cart- makes no sense. Just to add to the responces since no one has mentioned it, with a unipivot, the AZ adjustment tends to change with VTA. (That's why it was mentioned ...
Getting into Tube Equipment
Often times in this hobby of HEA, it's more a matter of what you can get your hands on rather than ideal. That's because what REALLY works is more often than not trying it out and making that discovery, as opposed to reading about what should work.
Getting into Tube Equipment
My impression of the old Dynaco stuff was the appeal was in those wanting to modify them. Back when they could be had for a song. Not a bad place to start, but for just sound quality, it's easy to do better...the list of tube amps in all price ran...
Does anyone leave their amp and preamp on all the time?
Wow...didn't expect this would be a debate, but it's a good debate. I used to worry about it, but these days, I really don't. Back when I had my quicksilvers, I just made an educated guess that turning them on and off more than twice a day was abo...
Just Got My Oppo 205!
I got the 205, and I concur it does take a substantial break in...just like any other "good" piece. I bought it mainly, because my transport (Data II) took a dump, and I wanted 4k for my new 4k TV. I haven't messed with it too much, connections an...
Schiit not shipping
Sounds like they are having trouble getting their Schitt together. No really, I know at least Mr. Moffet is particular about what parts he uses, and if they can't get the parts...entirely possible the parts suppliers haven't told them when they wi...
