Opinion of budget phono preamps? One advantage of an outboard is you can park it close to you table and skip the ic's from table to phono, but keep in mind you may want to keep some space if the phono you get has it's power supply in the box as opposed to outboard.
Do tubes last longer in Preamps than Amps? Tubes that are refered to as "pre-amp" tubes last longer than tubes that are "pover-amp" tubes. Whether or not the pre-amp tubes will last longer in a pre-amp or a power amp is another question, but in a power amp that uses both, the power tubes w...
Opinion of budget phono preamps? If you are going to change your whole preamp, there are a lot of good phono stages in some pre's. Far better than the rotel, creek, etc. That is definitely the best value for the money in that price range (the stuff you mentioned). Outboards becom...
Best Buy or Good Value in a Transport CD Theta data's II's are going for that now. Funny how all the stuff that was state of the art back when the delta was really good for the money are now really good for the money.
Vinyl and slurring S'es Try this; turn the volume all the way up to listen to the background noise of the cd and the analog. If you get a lot of hiss in the analog, it may be an indication that there is something going on with your phono stage or interface between cartri...
Cart update: old TT, new electronics You are in a rare catagory. Most people would consider your table (and arm) way below the other tables you mentioned, but because you understand the physics of how your table is supposed to work, you are able to make it sound considerably good. I...
Need to replace a Benz glider series 1 HELP Thank you twl, that was as good a description as I could hope for. BJ812, after reading what jimbo had to say, I'm wondering the same thing. Perhaps you can give us a better desciption of what you are hearing in the glider, and perhaps the bps as...
Opinions on this "white paper" Informative, insightful, well written. I tend to think when I come across like this, that I am right also. I'll spare you, because they know a lot of things I don't. But I am sure there are quite a lot of designers that know more than they do, and...
Need to replace a Benz glider series 1 HELP TWL, I have been hearing some lately on this 501 shelter, and you seem to know much about it. Your post here is making me go wow! what is this 501 shelter? How is it in comparisan to the lyra's (clavis d.c., for instance), what is the output? What...
Need to replace a Benz glider series 1 HELP I can't help but notice that you find the glider lean. Most find the glider on the warm side. My experience is the same, that is I found it not "lean" enough. Actually, I had the glider at the same time as the bps, and I found the glider extremely...
Have I ruined my stylus? Heck no! Consider all the hours you have or will have. Consider in all those hours all the clicks or pops you might get. How meny records do you play in a row? Ever listen all day? Hope this gives you some confidence. I, too, have done this, left ...
Want help before I open the box... It does sound like it is perhaps a dirty or bad volume control, since you can make it go away, but before you do anything, you should first positively isolate the amp. It is easy since it is only in one channel. swicth the channels, everywhere, th...

Cartridge/Tonearm matching fundamentals? Is the lydian beta very different to the origional removeable body lydian? I'm curios because I had one and it was one of my favorite cartridges, can't get it now. I'm also curious, although I'm not sure it will apply. I found the old lydian a goo... |
