Classe' DR-6 MKI vs MKII
I owned both a DR-5 and later, upgraded to a DR-6 MKII. Neither is bright so you should check that out elsewhere. If you read the old TAS reviews they were both described as "dark" which they were. The DR-6 II had an external power supply in addit...
Advent Model 300 tuner/receiver
This is an absolute classic. Very nice sounding piece with good FM. Makes for a great little bedroom system or whatever. Totally sellable.
Review: Acoustic Zen Absolute Copper Interconnect
Tried the AZ Copper after a 3 day burn-in on the cable cooker. These are the real deal. Best thing I can say about them is it's very hard to characterize them sonically. Time for some cable changes.
Most achingly-beautiful music
Agree with Chopin nocturnes above but must be played by Ivan Moravec. No other interpretation will do!
What Is Your Favorite Vintage Amplifier?
Instant nostalgia. What are the odds I would have actually owned the first two pieces posted? Loved the look of the AR amp more than the sound which was vintage solid state.... The Phase 400 was another story entirely a terrific sounding amp even ...
Review: Acoustic Zen Absolute Copper Interconnect
Great review. I'm a huge AZ cable fan and have been for a long time. Tried other stuff. Like copper & Matrix Ref IIs more than Silver or Silver Absolute in my system. Your review has prompted me to give the Absolute Copper's a try and consider...
Counterpoint SA-20 Amplifier
Agree totally with other posters (toasters?). If you need an SA-220 transformer I've got an extra one also caps. Michael Elliott is fine - but he's retired.
Need help on choosing a sub-woofer?
Not sure why you didn't get a pair of Rythmik F15HPs. Bigger drivers and weighs a bit more e.g. better build quality, tons of settings, slightly less expensive than what you got.
Tips from long-time Adcom 5800 owner
The 5800 is Adcom's finest amp. It got terrific reviews from no less than Bascom King who reviewed it in Audio magazine when it first came out. I owned it and the 5802. Liked it quite a bit better. Enjoy it!
Amp with best bass control
I recently purchased a Krell 2250e. Kung Foo grip to be sure!!!
Pass Labs XP-20 or Audio Research Ref 3?
Nothing wrong with the highs in the XP-20 - a little more emphasis on leading edge than the ARC. I don't mean to suggest the pre-amp is bright or siblant. You already know it isn't if you own it. As typical with tubes, ARC highs have a little more...
Pass Labs XP-20 or Audio Research Ref 3?
It's easy to be a big fan of both. I have owned the XP-20 and now the ARC Ref Anniversary which likely has a family resemblence to the Ref 3. Both are great preamps but are very, very different sounding. The XP-20's strongest points are an incredi...
Pass Labs XVR-1 crossover
I have used the XVR-1-3 for the past 6 years. Prior to that, I used 3 other crossovers with different speakers primarily Magnepans. I have been bi and tri-amping for over 30 years. If you're looking for the best in analog crossovers this is it and...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
VN101606 Wow. That cap is huge. Whatever board you end building the new crossover on, mount the inductors on different planes so there's no magnetic interference (note the orientation of the inductors on your board now).My 17 uF cap is shown in my...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Haven't looked at the Dunlavy's parts values and you might not need it but.... Most people here have not used big caps or inductors in their crossover. If the caps are really big, especially if > 15uF, the Cable Cooker is essential or it will t...
