B&W Matrix 801 Series II
Also, I gave $1500 for them. How'd I do?You did phenomenally. I've been looking for a pair myself and can only wish for a deal like that.
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
I'm glad it worked out for you, Halcro. The good news for us is that you now believe the much more widely available tt 81 is just as good? There appears to be some disagreement regarding whether the tt 81 has a coreless motor or not. The vintage kn...

About a million of them, Halcro :). Here are some quotes from my tech to perhaps narrow things down. The PCB is two sided but without plated through holes. It looks like they put eyelets in and then solder on both sides. I found one that was open ...

Have your tech check and re-do solder joints, Halcro. The gremlins live in those joints.
Glanz moving magnet cartridges
I believe the 155lc stylus fits the signet ea series, e.g. 7ea, but not the e series. Halcro knows for sure, so you can pm him.

Lewm: the only plausible explanation is that there is a conspiracy amongst techs to gaslight you.
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
I also see that Output Voltage is "adjust" between 0.25V and 9V. Is output voltage adjusted by user...or preset by the vendor to user requirement? There's nothing to adjust on mine--at least not on the exterior.I bought mine from their bay store, b...
Need help balancing tonearm/ heavy cartridge
As Mofi says, get a lighter headshell. the ADC Magnesium shells are light, as are the vintage audio technica (e.g. ls9) and sony ones (I see an 8gr one on the bay right now). Also, some of the Yamamoto wood headshells are light (e.g. the boxwood o...

I agree.....but, by the same token.....as my TT-101 began suffering its breakdown this week...???Say it ain't so, Halcro. I hope there are people you know who can restore it. Or, were you perhaps the one who won the ql10 on the bay last week?
non-locking rca's for analyis plus interconnects.
with the 9x, I'm wary of its 'fat bottom'. I need to be able to stick a banana plug (for ground wire) inbetween the 2 rca's and I suspect it won't be possible with those.

ah, elizabeth, the vampire 800c might be the one at 8.3mm. thanks.

That's a good idea, photon46. I'll pass that along to the re-terminator should I go that direction. I wish I had the skills to do it myself, but alas...

Thanks, photon46. I've seen that diagram and I told a+ in my email that the max diameter that the xhadow can accommodate is 7mm (according to that diagram). Yet, no definitive answer from them. I don't have calipers, but when I eyeball it on a str...
Tool for measuring pivot to spindle distance?
I've been using a straight ruler w/o sonic penalty (I think). But recently I've been thinking along your lines, Oakiris. For $40 this caliper would surely be good enough. It's allegedly good to a hundredth of a mm, but even if not exactly true, I ...
