Proper tracking force for the AT 150 MLX
Most likely that's the issue. I like the following method: start at 1.5g or whatever and go down until tracking issues commence, then raise by a hair. Go slowly. Or, alternatively, since now you like it at 1gr, start there and increase tracking fo...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
My asymmetric room is causing, I think, balance issues. I wish I had bought the dual mono version.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
with those AT MG series headshells, as you note, there seems to be no capacity for fine adjustment of overhang, because one is forced to use one of several discrete pairs of threaded inserts to mount the cartridge. I had been wondering whether the...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
I have a magnesium adc headshell (6 grams w/o leads) and an orsonic av-11* (8.5g w/o leads). They are collecting dust as I dislike both, especially the orsonic. *I suspect I may have a fake orsonic since it's non rigid in every conceivable way.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
dear Lewm:I like my audio technica headshells (ls 12, mg 10, and some other 9 gram one I don't know the model for). They all seem to work just fine with my MM carts. I take the finger lifts off. Be careful with picking these as some have azimuth a...

Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
Even if you gave it away for free, you'll find someone to complain that it wasn't shipped overnight express. To be honest though, two years ago, prior to being bit by the audio bug, I also would have said that $500 is 'very expensive'. I know bette...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dear Nandric:The English owner's manual for the P8 'system' asserts 'complete interchangeability'. VE also has the German version of the manual, so if you could read it and tell us whether the German has the same phrase, that would be helpful. If ...
Turntable speed accuracy
Thanks, Dev. I was just joking, but your post does move me closer to getting a timeline just to satisfy my curiosity. And when I'm unhappy with the results (I pessimistically predict), I'll wish I had Lewm's skills or at least easy access to someo...
Turntable speed accuracy
I tried it on a "DD" SP10 MK2 and it was off, no way to correct like the MK3 offers speed adjustments so the owner has to send it in.Not what I wanted to read. I hate this thread.Seriously: did the built-in strobe of that particular sp10 show that...
Do I need a phono pre amp?
Unless there's excessive noise, what's wrong with being at 2-3 o'clock? I'm at 4 o'clock with some carts.

VPI Setup - What Happened?
I agree with Rdavwhitaker, check your stylus. The 'little one' might have shortened the life of your stylus when 'modifying' your settings. I did that all on my own once by dropping it on a record, and the consequences are as you describe.
will different lengths affect sound
I use 8' and 14' cables and I cannot detect a difference. One wonders though. If I could at all avoid it, I would, if only to stop the voices.
