Dedicated phono-pre for MM only?
Hi KirkusVERY insightful, thank you. I'll have to chew over all of this with my 'consultant engineer':-) But now one question: Common mode rejection, yes well... everybody points this out on the differential circuits, and nobody is running 20m or ...
Loricraft and power cord upgrade?
AlmargNo man, don't say that! I'm a gonna cry now with disappoint, heck, no man.Dang, now you got me wrecked. An' I thought I learned something really deeply important here. All these power factors an' that stuff, man.A. :-)
Why is the price of new tonearms so high
Hi D.:-):-) thank you, funny how one can disagree, no.I get, you just also 'sunk' yet another highly regarded tonearm: The Breuer and the derived Brinkmann, right on, I say :-)Now to this other 'storage item', "the tonearm does not produce any sig...
Loricraft and power cord upgrade?
Wow,>>> I think you're getting more current to the machine with the upgraded power cord <<<Then we should need a dedicated power line with a high-end circuit breaker also, lest all is in vain, hm.A.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul, yes, B U T most of these main-line pres simply use more C (150 - 500pF) to shunt (suck-out) MM treble resonance. As Kirkus (I think) also mentioned, it is BETTER to use higher input impedance to do the job.If loading that MM with a '~ cheap' ...
Killing sibilance distortion - VPI & Jubilee
Goatwuss'y.s.:>>> Maybe the headshell on the VPI arm doesn't extend very far? <<<Must be the case then, not that I like it any much better though :-) sorry. But if that's it, I'll store that in my database.Next: "Setting zenith w...
Dedicated phono-pre for MM only?
Tom,>>> ... confused a bit by your comment that the 3160 has a jumper to change from 40 dB to 60 dB of gain.<<<That is not what I said, neither implied, since the 3160 has dedicated (like two seperate units) MM & MC stage(s) ...
Why is the price of new tonearms so high
Hi D.,>>> In general, the "heavy" tonearms do have plain advantages ..in power (read: vibration emitted from the cartridge during playback) handling..<<<A question: What about, the higher the mass, the bigger the "acoustic capaci...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul,I think one thing might not be altogether understood by the audience, about these MM comparisons: your 'special' MM/MC phono-line-pre used.Without having the ability to change input impedance from stock/standard 47k, to 75k or better 100k, an...
rega rb300 tonearm lift not working - fixable
Hi Msiebers, you say:>>> ***Since silicone is not a damping grease, I believe the lift will drop like a rock***. Even if it did work, the bottom of the rega lift is open, and the silicone **will drip out.** <<<I think you ARE misi...
Why is the price of new tonearms so high
:-)>>> D. in your four points you mention "dynamic balanced design" and "very rigid construction". Would you say the Schroder arm exhibits these traits? <<<Wat is sis? A leading quesion? Opening another Pandora’s Box?A.
Dedicated phono-pre for MM only?
Hi Tom,you say:>>> Just seemed like a similar question in that having phono stages designed specifically for the type of cartridge engine makes sense. <<<I have the idea that Raul will be the person to explain to you in his words...
Loricraft and power cord upgrade?
Oh ja?!>>> If you just have a stock power cord on your TV and it will fit, try it on that instead. <<<No, no, we need the hi-end version for this, so the picture will clearly be 1 - 2 foot outside of the box, and the depth percep...
Killing sibilance distortion - VPI & Jubilee
Hi Goatwuss,1. Mounting Distance, ie pivot to spindle distance is 223mm2. Effective Length is 240mmSo overhang => 240 - 223 = 17mm. That looks ABSOLUTLY normal. My SME-V e.g. has 17.8mm (Ja, ja, DerTonarm will love sat to se 1/10 of se mm :-)Th...
Dedicated phono-pre for MM only?
Hi Lewm,>>> With an MM phono stage, we should all be using a 100K load <<<Another reason for this thread's subject. I mean, WHICH phono-pre, of one-serves-all, has a 70k and/or 100k ohm input impedance option I ask? I know Raul's...
