Under my tower speakers -- Isoacoustics Gaia, other options?
If I see my 100lb speakers wiggle wildly it will be due to a problem far beyond what Max T is capable of resolving. Jokes aside, I use spikes and floor protectors that came with my speakers. As far as components are concerned, I pulled all isolat...
need amp recommendations for more separation of instruments
My concern is that when, say, I'm listening to a symphony and the main theme is being played by the strings, but there is a flute in the background doing something a little bit different, the flute gets lost. I can hear that it is there, but I ca...
need amp recommendations for more separation of instruments
Speaker placement and room acoustics is the first thing I would tackle. Equilateral triangle with speakers and listening position, then toe in to get the best compromise between image accuracy and soundstage width (it’s unfortunately always a comp...
Under my tower speakers -- Isoacoustics Gaia, other options?
mglik 851 posts 01-20-2023 at 04:34pm Townshend Podiums will be so effective as to like double the value of any speaker. When the speaker is decoupled from the floor, the vibrations that leaked down to the floor will then come out of the d...
How much should I spend on a new DAC
@celestial__sound  Search and read the forums. Watch YouTube videos (Hans Beekhuyzen, John Darko), read reviews. there’s wealth of information available that explains the benefits of a streamer over using a computer to stream your music.
How much should I spend on a new DAC
celestial__sound OP 86 posts 01-19-2023 at 09:12pm  @soix  I understand the computer can be a weak link. But, even though if I add a good streamer I will still have to use the PC as a roon core. I don't think using a  LAN connection instead ...
How much should I spend on a new DAC
I’d say your source should be on the level of your amp and speakers. I use Bricasti M3 DAC with a built in Roon compatible Network Player. Since you are using your PC as a roon core, you can kill two birds with one stone with something like the M...
Break-in Time
+1 @nonoise it’s not unusual at all for cables to flip flop few times before they settle. Usually at a 200hr mark you notice it’s all coming together.  If anyone doubts break in is a thing, try a brand new Furutech GTX-D NCF outlet.
In search of a touch of darkness
Warm sounding and one of the best power cables I tried on several different DACs is Audience AU24SE. Darker than that would be Acoustic Zen Gargantua II. Both can be had within the specified price range.    Here’s a used Acoustic Zen Gargantua II...
Wilson Sasha W/P amplifier pairing
Congratulations!!! I bet that sounds awesome!
Baffled and Frustrated: Streaming/DAC Sound Issues
@brewerslaw so…any updates?
SPDIF Coax cable recommendation?
Acoustic Zen MC2 is great. DH Labs would be my second choice.
Audio Research Reference 150 - buzzing input transformer
💩 happens and it’s frustrating when it does. But I’ve never heard “poorly designed” in the same sentence with Audio Research. Fixing the issue is worth it because ARC stuff sounds great.
Don’t buy used McCormack DNA 1990s amps
@davidbeagrace I recently tried a Simaudio Moon 330a. Thinking it will be a very nice match with your harbeths. Used can be found around $2500. Not discouraging you with McCormack. Just another option that may work just as good or better.
Rogue Preamp RP-1
@thirsty93 I had great results with Brimar CV4003 from Upscale Audio in my RP1. Second best were Gold Lion. I also tried RCA clear top and didn’t like it. Thin and tipped up in the treble.
