Technics SL-1300G Turntable issues I agree with Matt. Mid-fi product back in the day. Noisy with a poor arm. I guess it all depends upon what you use for comparison. I have heard good things about the upper level direct drives in the current line.
SOTA STAR Sapphire Turntable Care and Feeding I also have my first good table which is a Star Sapphire. Good table, but cant compete with my Merrill-Williams REAL. I should send the table back to SOTA for an overhaul and then sell it. Or I could put a better arm on the table and keep it. I re...
British Integrated Amps My experience with older Exposure models has been very good. I believe the same designer as the Hi-Watt guitar amps from back in the day.
GaN FET Amps vs. Traditional Class D Amps Need to listen to the Atma-sphere amps. To date, the best I have heard are the false tube type made in Italy. Cant remember the company name. Still not as good as tradition types to my ears. Most class D I have heard sound pretty pedestrian.
Vinyl Care I believe that Spin Clean makes a good, manual wet system. You will need to dry the vinyl after cleaning. Also needed will be a anti-static brush and a stylus cleaner. I clean all albums before playing with a wet system and then use the brush for ...
Tube vibration control I agree. If you experience microphony place the offending component in a different location or replace the tube. Now placing the component on a "special" stand or blocks, etc is a different thing.
Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too? Forgot to add Crosby Stills & Nash. Epitomizes much of what dislike most in popular music.
Im going to regret my cable question They may get it from Cardas. But the dielectric may be more important than the quality of the conductor material.
"audiophiles listen to their equipment" I agree. Even poor recordings sound better on a good system. So much more detail even if this detail is a bit harsh or compressed.
Linear Tube Audio Micro ZOTL - Version -3 in-depth upgrade information I think that Berning knows his stuff and that LTA handles the marketing. David is one of a very few truly gifted and original designers.
Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too? Somebody mentions XTC in a positive sense. Thanks. Not a Queen fan, and perhaps a bit of a hater.
"audiophiles listen to their equipment" Amir is smart in that taking such an extreme stance attracts many malcontents.
Looking for a more solid-feeling turntable (and maybe a new preamp) Although I respect all opinions, I cant believe so many of you are suggesting older direct drive models. They really were pretty bad with lousy tonearms. To do direct drive properly is very expensive.
"audiophiles listen to their equipment" I think some of you are thinking about this way too much! Why even differentiate?
"audiophiles listen to their equipment" Well I think this is part of the problem with double blind and similar listening tests. Listening for a difference is the worst type of critical listening. Further, you know you are being tested so it changes the entire experience. |
