Science that explains why we hear differences in cables?
Are discussions about first world problems shameful? As in should we be ashamed discussing such things or be ashamed we have this luxury?
Science that explains why we hear differences in cables?
I am done with all this. I buy a cable and compare it with others and if it sounds better I keep it and if it doesnt I sell. The fact that it is is now enough for me. Sometimes this process takes hours to days.
Observation: Passion vs Obsession
I dont see any reason to differentiate. Problem ultimately arises when others start to make judgements regarding the motivations of other enthusiasts. None of us have the right. More importantly why would you want to. Always seems to end with soci...
Does Heavy Metal music benefit from a high end audio system?
Thanks for the link featuring Black Sabbath! I know you cant tell much from a youtube feed, but I thought it sounded terrible. Hollow and shouty. Other than dynamics it was a bust IMO.
120hz hum coming from all-tube system - but only at high volumes
First you need to be aware of the difference between a hum and tube/system noise. To me at least the 2 are not easily confused. Usually microphonics is a ring or a howl, but to be certain tap around your components to see if the tapping transfers.
Tell about your experience with your old Audio-Technica SL-1200s..
Not a big fan of the table or the arm, but you can work with the table. The arm is pretty bad, so this could be a place to start.

The statement that any genre of music sounds better on S.S. vs tubes or the other way around is absurd. Unless, I guess, you are willing to say that there exists only one sound per type of amp.
Tonearm adjustments on the fly
Well I would say that environmental impact on the wood is just one of several potential problems. Perhaps even more significant is the issue of consistency of the material. Variations in grain, density, etc also could be questioned. Again I dont t...
Tonearm adjustments on the fly
VTA and SRA are not identical but so close as to possibly not be worthy of concern. But, as MC points out on damage control after earlier stating the opposite, they are not the same. Again I want an explanation other than "it sounds better" regard...
Tonearm adjustments on the fly
Sorry but I dont believe that wood doesnt change properties and even though my understanding is limited I cant fathom why anyone would use this as medium for an arm. I will admit that the Reed is a better looking arm, but such things matter nothin...

Is Reed the company that uses wood for the arm?
Tonearm adjustments on the fly
My vote is for the Triplanar. My exposure to Reed is limited so it is not fair for me to comment. I love my T.P.!

I cant recommend the newest version of the Merrill Williams enough. Of the 3 listed I would lean towards the Brinkmann but the M.W. I think would best it by a decent margin. I wouldnt go with a Brinkmann arm but this based on my exposure to their ...
The Most Cost Effective Tweak
Cheater plugs are a good idea but from a safety perspective perhaps not advisable.
To clean or not to clean...
I always wet clean records new or used the first time I play. Then I use a record brush for the next 3 to 5 playings and then wet clean again. I would think cleaning a new record would be critical. Been thinking about the new ultrasonic cleaners, ...
