Experience with Sensitive Sound MC cartridges
@elliottbnewcombjr I did write to Solypsa already. I gave Erik my system particulars and he did not mention any incompatibility in his reply. I plan to mount the Sensitive Sound cartridge on a Jelco TK-950S which is I think a potential good match....
I Just Inherited 4,000 LPs
Sorry for your loss. And happy that his memory and love lives on.
Back to vinyl need phono stage help!
If you can find a (used) C-J EF-1 which currently sells at less than $1K, you’ll be very happy. It would outperform all the options listed above, I bet. It is old, but there is never a single electrolytic capacitor inside and it is built like a ta...
What is the best speaker cable for Wilson Sabrina X?
Try asking Michael Fremer for recommendations. He uses Wilson. Also Jason Victor Serinus.
The anachronistic CD Transport? And do I really need one.
5% CD’s vs 40% digital files. My suggestion is to rip your CD’s into digital files. Then spend the money you’re planning to spend on a new transport towards improving your digital implementation, or if it’s already great, towards new music.(BTW, I...
Why so many angry audiophiles?
I think some audiophiles vent their anger or frustration online, hiding behind a username. I just let it pass. Spilled milk only turns sour.
What did your system look like 30 years ago?
Back then I was a primary school boy. I enjoyed a National (a Matsushita brand) boom box my father brought from the Middle East. It had a voltage selector in the back, and that was how I learned that not everybody uses the same voltage.
A question to the Sound Engineers out there
Some do listen on home hi-fi configuration. Two I know are Octave Records, whose releases have to pass final audition at Paul McGowan's music room at PS Audio; and Andreas Meyer in New York who has a mastering/listening room akin to a home set-up.
Recommendation for new cables
Try looking into Morrow Audio and see whether their cables are a good candidate.
How old is your cartridge?
@chakster I think the suspension is fine because the cartridge sounds very good. That's my only way of telling. But it is old, so it is possible that the suspension is suboptimal. And thank you for your contribution to the discussion. @rauliruegas...
How old is your cartridge?
@rauliruegas Thank you very much for sharing your experience. I started with the EPC-205C MKII, then moved up the line to the MKIII. I'll keep an eye on the MKIV. And yes, I'll send my stylus to Dr. VDH for retipping.
How old is your cartridge?
I've been lucky with my EPC-205C MK3. It has the original stylus, and the suspension, said to be its weakness is still fine. This particular cartridge in my possession sounds great. It beat the AT440mlb, Shure V15 III HE & IV MR and Hana EL, a...
Does Age Matter?
@mijostyn Of the 1500, how many actually care about sound quality, those who take care in putting together a decent system as their means allow? Probably just a hundred or fewer? Still, it’s rather sad that only one spins vinyl. Cost and convenien...
Does Anyone Think CD is Better Than Vinyl/Analog?
As far as I'm concerned, I'm all for analog - - vinyl and cassette (I don't use reel to reel, too expenaive). But for classical music, I now prefer hi-res digital like SACDs and files. It would take a very expensive vinyl set-up to equal digital p...
Speaker upgrade for classical music
Hi OP, I would suggest that you keep what multi-channel system you have for when you need it. Then start building a really nice stereo system from square one. When you listen to classical, jazz and opera, what you really need is good stereo. As fa...
