Tubed Preamp recommendations?
Look for a CJ PV-1. You can find them for $600/800. They sound fantastic .
Favorite song to demo or test drive speakers?
Whenever I make a significant change I play Dave Brubeck & Tony Bennett live performance for president Kennedy in 1962. It touches all the bases. You are there, wonderful recording.
Best tube preamplifier for under $15k
Who are you people! Best preamp under $15,000.00 dollars. That's dollars. This hobby has been hijacked by people with more money than sense.

GregI've got Maggie's 1.7i  and Klipsch 10 sub and Sony 8  sub in a 13-6 x 17' room with 8-6 ceiling.  I am trying to get a more dynamic sound. It's a dedicated room. They want $550.

Well actually I'm looking at all Raven cables which would wipe out my stash but might be a game changer.

old high end preamps..
I used to own a conrad Johnson pv1,a tube preamp made in the 70's. Sold it to a a audiophile with a system worth over a hundred thousand dollars.  When he hooked it up and play it he was in dreamland . I replaced it with a modern parasound p5.  No...
Audio discounts during Coronavirus
It seems to me it's fair if a local dealer has a sale and discounts for the purpose of staying open but than haggle with them is akin to a vulture!
Parasound A21+ or PS Audio S700 monos?
I too was concerned about the A21+ and the heat but it never has gotten very hot, just warmish However I never drive it loud!
Thoughts on choosing an amplifier
I too have the p5/ A21+ with magnapan 1.7i.  I get a wall of effect but no soundstage.  Try as I may no luck. My previous set was a mc250 with a conrad Johnson tube pre. Lots of soundstage but no dynamics.  Great for jazz but like to listen to man...
Cassettes still rock!
I agree ,tape sounds more dynamic than CD or vinyl.  I spoke to an electrical engineer awhile ago and he told me he recorded vinyl to a vhs tape and it improved the sound.  I could not get it to work for me.  Anyone out there who does this?
