MM Cartridge Recommendation You are not going to better the black unless you spend way more money. Most likely you will have to buy a moving coil to better it. I have a bronze 2m and I love it. It does everything right by me, especially paired with a nice tubed phono preamp.
New TT, Arm and MC Cartridge Origin live would be on my radar....the aurora with an onyx or silver arm, plus a Hana el or sl mc cartridge would be a nice all round package.
How important is it to have identical speaker cable length? I’ve always used the same length. The draw back is one cable may have to be coiled, the one nearest to your components or rack. Alternatively, the cable could be looped I suppose. However, I do not detect any detrimental effect on the sound by coi...
Does port location make a significant difference with regard to speaker placement? Front ports or a lower plinth port are less fussy. Rear ports should usually be placed with a good amount of space between it and the rear wall. I'd say at least one foot from wall. Some manufactures using rear ports sometimes recommend close to r...
So where should the tubes be? My phono preamps are all tubed, I own three...tavish, ear 834, and pro-ject tube box ds2. Also, my border patrol dac has a tube rectifier in the power supply. My opinion is solid state amp, preferably pure class A, and a tubed phono preamp if your...
How long does Class A have? Nice choice in the Sugden a21se, I got one in silver. That 30 watts is deceiving. It drives my Tannoys nicely. It does run pretty hot, but I do not keep it on 24/7.
What is wrong with my system? Someone ran a test, forget who...concerning a coiled speaker cable...there was no discernible sound difference between a coiled or uncoiled speaker cable. My left speaker cable is coiled, my right is not. Sounds fine.
Audio deals you bought that seem impossible for the price? The wharfedale diamond 225's still amaze me at $449 a pair....winner of both the absolute sound and stereophile budget component of the year in I believe 2017. The sound, to me, is fantastic with no matter what kind of music you throw at them. Alt...
Purchasing from LP Gear Lp gear is great. I have ordered several times without issues. They are about the only ones that still offer the shure m97xe, which I happen to like, as well as the replacement stylus.
I'm looking for a pair of interconnects that won't shatter the bank.... Any cable from the various UK manufacturers such as Chord, Atlas, ecosse, QED....these brands are seldom mentioned. They all make excellent lower budget line cables.
CD Player Recommendations… Find a used Marantz hd cd-1. It's a unique compact cd player that can also serve as a transport. I use mine with a Border Patrol dac. It sounds great.
Tube based phono stage I second tavish....but also own the ear 834p, which is nice. The pro-ject tube box ds2 is a bargain and sounds wonderful with all the adjustments you would ever need.
PowerBall Lottery Winner You have a better chance of getting struck by lightning twice in the same spot...all these people who brag about how much they won on a scratch ticket, yet they never tell you how much they spent along the way until they finally hit....I’d say th...
Cassette deck cleaning 99% isopropyl on the heads, denatured alcohol on the pinch rollers....been doing this for 38 years on my Aiwa AD f770, still works as new. My machine automatically demagnetizes the heads upon start up.
So damn hard deciding which tube preamp to buy! 25k? I need a new pick em' up truck, can you give me a loan? |
