Reasonable moving coil cartridge
I will second both the audio technica at-f7 @ $259 currently on Amazon. I will also highly recommend the Hana EL @ $475! The Hana is absolutely wonderful for the money. At elusive disc.com they are running a special right now on the hana @ I belie...
Is it all worth it?
Worth it! I enjoy the whole regiment of cleaning, listening, flipping sides, cleaning, listening, and on and on.....to me, when it all comes together with a certain records, I take a deep breath and sit back in utter joy (big grin) and just feel a...
How does this make sense, any sense? Any sense at all??
The ls50 is bettered by the inexpensive $449 Wharfedale 225’s....especially in the bass department. I now have Tamnoy legacy Eaton’s, but I will never ever part with my wharfedales....they are special speakers that are mind bogglingly good at what...
Streaming
Honestly, a decent laptop, a good digital coax or toslink cable, good pair of analog interconnects, a good usb cable, and the musical fidelity vdac 90 is all you need for very good results. I’ve streamed this way for a year now and it sounds fine ...
Charity store bin diving? Am I the only one that suffers this addiction?
Just recently found the who's Tommy on the decca label with all the inserts intact and a very good gatefold cover. The record sounds near pristine! Paid a buck!
Do any still use an older high end tuner from the past?....
Marantz st6000, creek t43, cambridge audio t500, and a kenwood Kt4007....all terrific sounding vintage tuners...
Cartridge recommendation for classical listening
I’d try the Hana line of cartridges, very sophisticated sound and excellent tracking ability. An economic and excellent solution would be the audio technica AT-F7 with a step up transformer.
Charity store bin diving? Am I the only one that suffers this addiction?
Been doing this for years.....I'm fortunate to have numerous thrift type outlets in my area, one of which I even scored brand new unused NOS records! Yea not mainstream stuff, but sealed and unused regardless. Sometimes I get a bum record, but I'd...
Fairly new to streaming. Where to start?
Just get a musical fidelity vdac 90 and call it a day for $299. It's a borderline class A component in Stereophile magazine and I agree with them that it is a wonderful peace of equipment for not very much and can rival many dacs 3 times its price...
MUST Have Vinyl
The Who, Who’s next original copyThe doors 1st album, original copy Boston’s first lp, also original copyEtc etc...don't have time to compile a list of ten (bed time....)I found all above still sealed! Paid a bit, but to me worth every penny. I ha...
Cassettes still rock!
The Aiwa ad f990 was a pretty close match sonically to the fabled nakamichi Dragon. Sold my 990 on ebay, and kept both my 770 and 660 though. Reason being Is the 990 still fetched top dollar. I have had some issues buying sealed pre recorded tapes...
Cassettes still rock!
Never stopped listening to cassettes. It helps having a top notch machine to play them on such as my Aiwa ad f770! Frank Sinatra on reprise cassette sounds spectacular!?
looking for a preamp for pass XA30.5
Rogue RP5 or RP7.
Power Amplifier Longevity
Buy a sugden class A and it can double as a space heater in winter! 😁 seriously though, there is nothing wrong with Marantz. I own the pm14s1 reference made in Japan and it is a terrific sounding integrated that I will never part with. The Sugden ...
