The Hub: Futterman H3: Seen one lately?
Ooo-kay. Thanks for that. Too bad Arts Dudley and Carney never worked together; the team could've been called "Art For Art's Sake".So...any comments about the piece, or Futtermans, or Gizmo? Anybody??Sheesh. Must be tryptophan-overload.
The Hub: The original McIntosh MC-275
Myles, nice to see you here, but you've got me very confused. The only comment of yours I've acknowledged was in another entry, and pertained to the B&W 801. I'm not sure what I've done to deserve the sarcasm, or a lecture about fact-checking. ...
The Hub: Does a pair of 5's beat an 8?
...and thank you for the contrarian viewpoint, Lance! One of the fascinating and frustrating aspects of audio is how often obvious and brilliant ideas just don't hold up in practice.During my time with a builder of very expensive tube amps, my favo...
The Hub: TidBits from RMAF 2009: Part THREE
Love you too, Chrissy! You scared the hell out of me for a second, though...I don't hear the "L" word here much!
The Hub: ''Handcrafted Ralph Gleason'' ?
Uh-huh. Perhaps I need to speak with that...gentleman.Thanks for pointing that out.Regarding breaks---agreed. It gets a little too much like reading Faulkner, without them. Having grown up in the south, I was force-fed enough Willie F. to last sev...
The Hub: ''Handcrafted Ralph Gleason'' ?
Six million dollar man: I've gotten into a lot of trouble through the years with folks who didn't think humor and the high end could coexist. They never liked my " Sebastian Cabot Sings Dylan" album, either. Their loss.Mapman, did you say, " Mr. G...
The Hub: ''Handcrafted Ralph Gleason'' ?
I'm not saying I expect the seller to sell that product IN GENERAL, with a full product-brochure. I do think the seller needs to provide full details on THAT SPECIFIC UNIT.I just saw a pair of ads for expensive pieces that said only, "full details...
The Hub: ''Handcrafted Ralph Gleason'' ?
Rox, Mapman, agree with you totally. Common sense just doesn't seem to be that common, sadly.Ferrari, I wear a size 8 1/4 hat. I've been beaned (!) so many times that, as they used to say in Memphis, it don't matter none. Thanks for the concern, th...
The Hub: ''Handcrafted Ralph Gleason'' ?
Thanks for the comments.Vander, glad you like your amp, and for pointing out the validity of my premise: what you write MATTERS.Sones, having to edit myself pretty rigorously, I can forgive someone who says too much far more readily than I can for...
The Hub: Does a pair of 5's beat an 8?
I thought that, as well. I've generally preferred tube-rectified amps, all else being equal.
The Hub: Does a pair of 5's beat an 8?
Thanks, guys, for the comments. No comments on the Captain Kangaroo issues. Kinda sorry I brought it up. ;->I've wondered about transformers improving with age; there is a mechanical aspect to them which undoubtedly changes with use (ever had bu...
The Hub: Bowers & Wilkins 801: Good, Bad, or Ugly?
Vangoughear (!), I may've skipped a detail or two. If so, my bad. SpidermanSubaru, thanks for the details. You may've just bumped up the market price on the Matrix! Thanks to you both for reading and commenting.
The Hub: No moving parts? No problem!
Well, that's a problem with pretty much every hybrid speaker, but the DuKanes didn't even seem to make an attempt to match the woofer to the magic tweeter. I fond a pair in a pawn shop once, years ago; sadly, the Ionic tweeter had been pulled out ...
The Hub: Bowers & Wilkins 801: Good, Bad, or Ugly?
...and buy used on Audiogon, of course!
The Hub: Bowers & Wilkins 801: Good, Bad, or Ugly?
Thanks for the comments. The first time I heard 801s at a dealer in Portland, Oregon, in 1980, it was with a Crown amp. Having survived a DC-300a, it surprised me to see the Crown, but that one (whatever it was) was better than the DC-300a.Lipnick'...
