On the fence about Vinyl need a good phono stage for A/B testing
Or at least I try my best to keep SMPS’s away from my systems.
On the fence about Vinyl need a good phono stage for A/B testing
FYI, I had a BLab phono stage, about $9k, very nice indeed and better than a number of stages but the iPhono 2 was better to my ears. They were equal in all aspects except timing. The iPhono 2 simply had better PRAT. I was using a linear supply wi...

Geeek101:I think any any of the others you’ve named would be good choices including an iFi iPhono 2. Of course it’s your dime and you are free to run whatever cartridge you want with any stage you choose. I just think the EQ 500 will not yield it’...

Geek101:Please don’t read this the wrong way. Perhaps you mentioned earlier in the thread that you are planning to eventually move to a higher end cartridge, not that there is anything at all wrong with the 2M Bronze. If you do plan to move up the...

amg56:Much appreciated.
On the fence about Vinyl need a good phono stage for A/B testing
amg56:That sounds awesome! I use an ART 1000, London Ref and Ana Mighty Sound 103.3 with the Luxman although the London belongs to the SPL Phonos :)The ART 1000 and 103.3 sound absolutely stunning with the EQ500.

Geek101:Not silly at all, it is in the top three or four that I’ve ever heard, and I have listened to more than I can count with some of them costing FAR FAR more than the Luxman. It is quiet, flowing and has excellent timing which is important, a...

Oh yeah, it sounds stodgy and thick out of the box, very opaque. It will loosen up at about 100 hours and start to sing around 250 hours. I know many folks exaggerate about components being run-in after like 20-50 hours. I don’t usually have that ...
On the fence about Vinyl need a good phono stage for A/B testing
Geek101:I currently own 4 phono stages with a fifth soon on the way. The Luxman EQ 500 is one of them and it is simply one of the best I’ve heard. Change the fuses (a must) to something more ambitious than the cheap glass it comes stock with. I tr...
AT ART 1000 vs London Reference vs Ana Mighty Sound 103.3
Lewm: I understand what you are saying concerning tonality and VTA. I do believe that VTA can extend beyond just tonality and literallly affect a make-or-break situation in the overall sound of the transducer. I keep records for each of my cartrid...
AMR 77.1 cd player and your thoughts
I will follow up on this and say that my DP 777 SE with an Audio Magic Ultimate Bees wax fuse and the following audio chain:Mac Mini with Uptone Audio LPS replacement board and the Uptoone Audio LPS power supply/ ifi Audio Gemni 3.0 USB cable ->...
AT ART 1000 vs London Reference vs Ana Mighty Sound 103.3
Hi lewm;Obviously I don’t know your system or the ART 7 but if I recall isn’t the ART 7 a very low output cartridge (.12mv) ? What gain is your stage set for while running the ART.  I would suggest nothing lower than 66dB and perhaps as hi as 72dB...
AT ART 1000 vs London Reference vs Ana Mighty Sound 103.3
Just a quick follow-up in case it wasn't clear. The ART 1000 once fully broken in has become one of my favorite cartridges and I will be adding it to my system very soon. Only a mixup with another product I purchased from the dealer delayed my pur...
AT ART 1000 vs London Reference vs Ana Mighty Sound 103.3
Interview before purchase? That is ridiculous and quite frankly no ones business what my system is composed of. If I want to buy a cartridge and frame it as art that is my prerogative. These are the types of individuals that show the ugly side of ...
AT ART 1000 vs London Reference vs Ana Mighty Sound 103.3
lewm:As magnesium is a naturally damped (well more so than aluminum) metal I’m guessing that’s why my London sounds so fantastic on the GAE arm or at least one of the contributing factors along with the Schick oil impregnated graphite headshell us...
