DAC/Pre's Digital attenuation vs. analog Not sure what the Benchmark unit costs, from who I have talked to, the W4S DAC-2 beats any of the Benchmark units. I really liked my DAC-2... was connected XLR direct into a BAT VK-55, sounded great. One small box does so much. They can price it t...
Improvement in CD player transports I would put a LINN Akurate DS playing 24/96 or 24/192 FLAC/WAV files against ANY CD player under $20k. Eliminate the CD itself and you eliminate a lot of the noise/jitter.
DAC/Pre's Digital attenuation vs. analog Reading all the specs and tests in the world (on paper) about volume control will not tell you ANYTHING about how good a DAC will sound. Please stop this nonsense.
Is the Mark Levinson 390S still a reference player None of those players will sound like a LINN Akurate DS playing 24/96 or 24/192 FLAC/WAV files.
Decent DAC under $10k anyone? The LINN Akurate DS I am using, playing 24/96 and 24/192 FLAC/WAV is amazing.
Attn Vinyl lovers - what CD Player do you use? No CD player... a LINN Akurate DS will destroy most CD players under $20k.
Linn Ikemi vs. Naim CDX2 I owned an Ikemi - very, very nice sounding CD player. Only problem: LINN has totally dropped the ball on supporting older products (trust me, I was a LINN guy for about 20 years). You will not be able to get an Ikemi fixed, EVER if something shou...
DAC/Pre's Digital attenuation vs. analog Edorr...I agree, you may get a slightly better results throwing an expensive tube preamp in the mix, but why? Why add that expense, another power cord and IC - why add the additional box? The volume control on the DAC-2 is good enough for anyone E...
DAC/Pre's Digital attenuation vs. analog Lots of technical talk (again), but my two cents.... buy the W4S DAC-2 (I owned one), it is a really nice piece for the money. STOP WORRYING ABOUT ALL THIS DATA and SPECS and tech. discussions about digital volume!!! And when I sold my DAC-2, I so...
Coax or USB between transport and DAC? Katylied,Ripping at 24 bit makes a significant difference. Have you heard a 24/96 or 24/192 WAV or FLAC file off a LINN DS? There are not many CD players made that will compete. The key is eliminating the transport all together. They are comparing...
Coax or USB between transport and DAC? If you were to buy a Wyred 4 Sound DAC-2, it has an asynchronous USB connection and built-in volume control (as well as many in's and out's)... connected USB direct from any PC or laptop will kill any COAX connection you try. Forget the transport ...
Focus on 24/192 Misguided?..... I concluded that you are wrong...
Focus on 24/192 Misguided?..... To summarize....I guess we have concluded just the opposite - that 24/192 is a VERY GOOD idea actually, as it SOUNDS GREAT and hard drive space is fairly inexpensive. Using dbPoweramp (very cheap program) to rip your CD collection into 24/96 or 24...
Focus on 24/192 Misguided?..... According to all the engineers and tests and specs, vinyl does not sound as good as a CD right? But so many people would prefer the sound of vinyl and/or tubes over SS amps and a CD player. So I guess all this talk about specs and cutoff freq., et...
Focus on 24/192 Misguided?..... I guess if you are happy with 16/44 then that is all that matters, but there is a whole lot more to be had. |
