Purist Proteus Provectus tonearm cable. Cables are system and listener dependent.Big name/high price wires don't necessarily work for everybody. This seems to be satisfactorily documented as inexpensive cables, e.g. Anti Cables, Signal Cable, etc., appear to work quite well in lower cost...
Banana plugs, Spades or a little of each? Use what is convenient. You (and everybody else for that matter) can't hear the difference among spades, bananas, and bare wire.
In your opinion, what is Hi, Medium and Low end? Buy and listen to what pleases your ears.Ignore all the static you're hearing here.
What Solid State PreAmp? I love tubes as much as the next guy; I was "raised" on them. However, there are some really good, actually excellent, solid state preamps. To dismiss solid state topology when considering a new preamp purchase is naive.
Good sounding 70's live LPs... The 1978 double album "Waiting For Columbus" by Little Feat is one of the best, if not the best, live recordings.Even the MOFI copy is decent but the original pressing on Warner Brothers is spectacular and the one to own.

Luna, you'll really need to hear them in your system to make that determination.Cables are system dependent; there is no "one size fits all", a fact, not opinion, that some fail to recognize here. However, with enough experience they eventually may...
Worth having my SOTA Sapphire refurbished? >>very reasonably priced for what one gets...which is basically a state of the art product!<<That's partially correct. All of their tables are reasonably priced and high value for that matter. Far better than VPI for the money.However,...

New Re-Issue Vinyl: Surface Noise, Ticks, Pops.... Last record treatment and stylus treatment is a major NO NO.Simply keep your vinyl and stylus clean. Nothing more is needed.

Albums you use to test your gears? I use the first cut of side two, In Your Eyes, from Peter Gabriel's "So" album to test tonearm/cartridge alignment. The words "instincts" and "churches" are repeated a number of times. They will mistrack i.e. excessive sibilance if your alignment i... |
