Does a ripped cd onto a digital format sound better than the cd played on the cdp
if you do have a music server/Mac/pc in your audio room, the best interface is i2s which nobody uses. I use Ethernet with cat7 cables since my dac has a network card built in, IMO, the only way to go.I use I2S and many of my customers do also. Mos...

Since signal moves in cable at about 5ns/m then 3ns corresponds to about 0.6m. Any cable longer than that (including all internal connections of the source and receiver) will behave like transmission line (might have reflections). It’s not sufficie...

A lot of expensive digital cables don't state whether they are controlled impedance cables or what that impedance is. I suspect some are but I don't buy them unless they have stated impedance. Granted, 44KHz is not overly fast for terminated tra...

Steve, Ethernet directly into the DAC?  Not sure how that works. I run Ethernet from my Roon server to a Roon endpoint/renderer but then I2S directly into the DAC.I designed an Ethernet Renderer on a module that can be installed in my Overdrive DA...
Sound Quality of red book CDs vs.streaming
Well, after obtaining a streamer (Arcam,)  and dumping Chromecast Audio, I still find CDs superior sonically to streaming when comparing identical tracks. The streamer is close though. With this equipment, it's not surprising.  Too much jitter.  Ar...
Apple TV Streaming Sound Quality vs Streamer?
Depending on your DAC, the Synchro-Mesh could make a huge difference, running Toslink from the ATV and AE to the SM and then a good BNC coax from the SM to the DAC.If $699 is too rich for you, then try the $150 iFi SPDIF iPurifier.  Get it on Amaz...

The best method of delivery right now is Ethernet.  This is what I use, not USB anymore. However, like USB, the playback app matters and the router/switch and cable hardware matters.  It's a shorter list of things that matter compared to USB.Steve ...

Nice explanation.
A very good ENGINEERING explanation of why analog can not be as good as digital..
I have the Keith Jarrett piano live performance.  Sounds live on my Ethernet driven DAC system.  More live than anything I have heard at ANY tradeshow or showroom.  Most exhibitors shy away from playing piano in their rooms because they know it wi...
Jitter, CDPs, Transports and Streaming
Reclockers or reclocking designs, chips, circuits and said implementations of such... can make for worse jitter going in (to the dacs proper), than was originally received from the given source point, so one has to be careful. Re-clocking is not a...

audioengrI enjoy reading your posts for the most part. I do not see your gear listed nor pics in Virtual Systems? Happy Listening!Done, Steve N.

For Toslink cables I recommend this excellent one:https://btpa.com/TOSLINK-XXX.htmIt's recommended to get at least one meter length to prevent overloading the Toslink receiver.Steve N.Empirical Audio
Jitter, CDPs, Transports and Streaming
Every source, whether it's a Transport or a computer server will sound different because the clock circuit designs are different.  Some are better than others, so they will have lower jitter.  A DAC that reclocks asynchronously will usually be aff...
Jitter, CDPs, Transports and Streaming
There is always a small buffer of a few words, but it is clocked synchronously with the clock recovered from the incoming stream by the "Receiver" chip. The clock is contained in the S/PDIF data stream and it is recovered by this chip.  Some of th...
Jitter, CDPs, Transports and Streaming
I got to thinking that DACs have buffers that they read from and realized that the upstream source shouldn’t matter, but they apparently do. Why doesn’t the buffer completely eliminate the relevance of the quality of the source? Are there types of...
