Power Cord Lenght ? Better shorter or longer?
As far a power cords are concerned, I dont pay much attention to the fact that the voltage is a 60 Hz sinusoid. I pay more attention to the di/dt of the current, of which the spectrum can contain very high frequencies. This is what any inductance ...
Power Cord Lenght ? Better shorter or longer?
What I am saying is that all cable designs become more inductive as you lengthen them. The inductance per foot does not change, just the total inductance. Just as all cables add capacitance as they get longer.Designs that have very low inductance ...
Power Cord Lenght ? Better shorter or longer?
For all audio applications, shorter is better. For IC's, speaker cables, digital cables and power cords. For power cords and speaker cables, inductance is the parameter to be minimized and it increases with length. If you are using the cable as a t...
Power cable question.
See the cable shootout in Bound for Sound two issues back. quite a few cords compared. TG Audio cord won for most applications - line-level. Around $400.
What makes phono cables different?
IMO, the difference in phono cables has to do with the loading on them. If the cartridge is designed to be flat into a certain capacitive load, then the combined cable and preamp input capacitance should match this capacitance. I have seen cases w...
Does hotglue affect the ...
You are way too paranoid. A little hot glue will not affect anything. It will increase the capacitance and the dielectric absorption microscopically. Neither of these is a first-order effect in a speaker cable. Better to protect your gear.
SIlver Cable Experiences?
Silver cables tend to be more sensitive to gauge than copper. I stick with smaller gauges because the larger gauges sound harsh. I also only use them for IC's, not speaker cables.
Cables 101 for a beginner
Read my Audio FAQ and white-papers page at:http://www.empiricalaudio.comThese will give you some insights on the relative performance of the different cables. I prefer to upgrade IC's first, then speaker cables, then power cords.
Any experiences with Eichmann Express Bullet Plugs
I use these connectors on the Empirical Audio Holophonic unshielded IC. I have custom versions made and I modify them for better strain-relief. The plastic housing is good because it adds little capacitance to an unshielded IC. I could not make 3....
Right Angle Power Cord's
I would try my new cord on it, but I have retired my ML pre for the time being, besides, I need a right-angle connector. Cant seem to find one with a good strain-relief. Maybe after I move to central OR.BTW - just got a solicitation to try a new I...
Right Angle Power Cord's
I dont know how good it is. I tried some different cords a long time ago and they didnt seem to make a huge difference. Maybe your cord or my new cord would. And for the signal paths - the reason that they need to be short is because the intermedia...
the best use Subwoofer for under 1500
You dont really need an expensive power cord for a Velodyne, just a larger, grounded one. The total cap upgrade cost me ~$30. A used F1500R is around $700-$800.
Next Up-grade, Power Cables?
First, upgrade the power cords on your power amplifiers. Low-inductance is the key here. Try to get inductance 10X lower than the ROMEX in the walls. Also, the tightness and contact resistance of the power-outlet is important. I would recommend ch...
Right Angle Power Cord's
Now, Bob. I have one of these preamps and it is a really excellent design. I believe the reason that they put the power cord there was two-fold:1) there is not much room on the back-panel for an IEC connector2) it allows the signal paths to be eve...
Cable Length for Center Channel?
If you use identical amps and similar speakers for all three front channels, then identical lengths is recommended. This is to insure that the amplifier loading is the same for all three. The length has nothing to do with the propagation time.
