combination tube amp and ss preamp?
Problem with a tube amp, for a retired HS teacher anyway, is over time you spend more money on tubes than the amp cost. That might take a few years or decades depending on the amp.
The best speaker you ever heard?
Sorry with my last post if you see spelling or grammatical errors- clicked 'submit' accidentally...
The best speaker you ever heard?
The best speakers I have heard have all been fairly easy to drive. Getting saddled with a hard to drive speaker is next to criminal in my opinion- if you can't play all the volume you want with 200 watts you are in big trouble due to something oft...
Loading the Koetsu Urushi
The loading will only be critical if your phono section is sensitive to Radio Frequency Interference (RFI)!IOW, loading values that small don't affect the cartridge at audio frequencies. You hear a difference because the phono section gets upset i...
solid state integrateds that will hold their value
No worries- I just realized I was off-topic anyway.
solid state integrateds that will hold their value
If you look at the history of integrated amplifiers it will be obvious that tube integrated amplifiers tend to hold their value better than solid state. Take a look at ebay- put in the brand of amplifier, and the words 'integrated amplifier' and l...
Can a phono stage really do this?
The short answer is yes, a phono stage can indeed do this. And you got it right- what it is doing is **not** emphasizing the ticks and pops, while the previous phono section was. This has nothing to do with loading, although loading can help if the...
humming noise
I hope you loosened the mounting screws when you moved the cartridge! Some cartridges will fail if the body of the cartridge is tweaked too much. Otherwise you have good advice here.
Which preamp? Opinions? Suggestions?
I don't think the Infinity system allows a single amp to run full range. Isn't there a servo feedback system between the woofer cabinet and the amp driving it through the crossover? That system may have been eliminated by that time, but at any rate...
Amplifier specs, does they matter?
Nelson Pass published an excellent article on distortion and feedback:http://firstwatt.com/pdf/art_dist_fdbk.pdfThe bottom line is it does not seem to be implementation specific. About 50 years earlier, Norman Crowhurst had some similar comments o...
Amplifier specs, does they matter?
^^That.
Your most disappointing purchase or audition?
Tubes108 is fabricating this whole thing. No product can work with diodes reversed and would never had made it out of the shop as it would not have even powered up properly! Anyone who knows electronics knows that. What he is suggesting is that we...
Amplifier specs, does they matter?
Some specs matter and some don't.An example of a spec that matters is noise. Another is bandwidth (which ideally is 2Hz to 200KHz to reproduce 20Hz to 20KHz properly...)An example of a spec that hardly matters is THD. The reason this spec has smal...
Your most disappointing purchase or audition?
And yeah, I think tubes108 is unfairly being held to a different standard than the other posters here.If the standard is that people are talking about stuff that actually happened then its perfectly fair.
How loud is loud?
Hello Audiolabyrinth, yes, 4 ohms.
