Any new turntable brands we should pay attention to ?
Technics was out of the game for a while. So they are now a new contender, with two new designs, the SL-1200G and the new SP-10. They are the most speed stable designs available.I've yet to see the new SP-10, but the SL1200 employed 5 different me...
Disappointed w/ Klipsch Heresy III. Now what?
Traditionally, speakers like the Heresy did best with tubes. Its easy to imagine it being a bit harsh with a transistor amplifier. You don't need a powerful amplifier so you have lots of options. I would recommend something with at least 15 watts ...
Are future improvements in Amp/PreAmps slowing to a crawl?
The digital data to be converted to analog far out strips the ability of the analog section to pass along the stored image. This statement is false.
Upcoming Technics SP-10R (100th Anniversary Model)
My hat is off to Technics for this! My only beef is that the new SP-10 has the same failings as all the earlier ones: the plinth is not set up right to accommodate a tone arm! So we're back to the same issue of having to build up an aftermarket pr...
Anyone Had Extended Listening Experience With MBL?
The MBL preamp was used every time I heard them.. All cables are Wireworld Platinum Series 7. The 101E’s are very detailed, open, great imaging and tonality. They can sound too detailed, almost bright at times.I would not blame the speakers for...
Need a new amplifier. Need a good match for my Audio Research LS7 preamp
A lively room is definitely something to be considered! The room is at least half the sound of any stereo so proper room treatment is important.
DC leakage from power amps
Always happy to help!
EI Vs Toroidal
The toroidal in my F5 clone hums surprisingly loudly. Virtually no noise at all through the speakers, but you can hear that toroidal humming away from 2 or 3 feet away. It almost makes a grunting sound when I power it up. Toroids saturate easil...
Anyone Had Extended Listening Experience With MBL?
Sure. The speaker is easier to drive than most people think (my exposure is the mbl101). 200 watts is plenty in most rooms. The speaker measures a crazy low efficiency because it is omnidirectional. Once you are back from it a little ways you find ...
Tube amp for Zu Omen
That speaker has always been a good match with our little S-30 amp- its a very tube-friendly speaker. I don't know if you can find one used in that price range or not.
Need a new amplifier. Need a good match for my Audio Research LS7 preamp
I agree with yogiboy that brightness is a common comment about that speaker.Whatever you do, do an audition if at all possible! Its very easy to flush lots of $$$$ down the loo otherwise....I would use tubes, but because of the design of the speak...
DC leakage from power amps
The SPL meter sounds like a good idea.I think that would be a good idea too.
Sweet Vinyl Sugarcube - I Want It!!!
I have to live with the ticks and pops@bondmanp it might interest you to know that many ticks and pops heard on LPs are not the fault of the LP but instead the phono preamp! If the preamp is unstable, it will make a tick or pop that is otherwise in...
Why is good, deep bass so difficult? - Myths and their Busters
Clean bass needs a Q of 0.7 or less and two 15 inch woofers in most domestic settings. (4 x 12" woofers will be equivalently capable.) I rarely see this kind of setup on Audiogon so I don’t think many people are even aware of the issues raised ...
Are future improvements in Amp/PreAmps slowing to a crawl?
^^ I have exactly that in mind :)
