How does the sound of a power tube change, over time?
Does this happen with amps which employ auto-biasing?Yes.I find that triode power tubes tend to go downhill a bit slower than tetrodes and pentodes.
Switch preamp?
I use to have an older Krell 200 FPB stereo amp.  When I added a tube pre, I had to open the amp up and remove a small jumper(manual switch) connector.  Something about tubes damaging the amp.  The information was in the manual but the locatio...
I need help, please? Listening to my system through music!
@simao OK- the real question seems to be 'did you have any of those tube amps on the speaker and did it make the bass you were expecting?"From what I can find of the speaker on the web it appears to be a moderate load. But often specs can be decei...
Tekton Preview / Audition in Minneapolis
OK- I'm interested in hearing them if that's possible. I live in St. Paul.
atmasphere 6as7g output tubes.
I would like to know if anyone has compared the Sovteck to the RCA 6AS7G's and what their finding were?Sure- in our circuits the American tube makes more power and is less reliable. This is particularly true of the GA variant which should be avoid...
Preamp
What did you have in mind?We were the first company to produce balanced line preamps, and they are all-tube.BAT was one of our early customers before they started operations. They make balanced line tube preamps as well.Aesthetix has long made bal...
Preamp Recommendation
If the Classe has a balanced input, I would take advantage of it. BTW there are balanced line tube preamps. Also, do be careful with that Classe. Some of the output devices have gotten hard to find.

Had you thought of getting a tube amp that simply has enough power?Clearly 35 watts was not enough, but tube amps are available with a lot more power :)I would wait 'til you're not happy with the current setup though!
Triode or Ultra-linear? Why?
Ultra linear is supposed to have similar linearity to triode, but in my experience, there is no substitute for actual triodes.
Hum problem
Thanks- sounds like the relay is a secondary problem. The hum is nothing to do with the relay though. Its a process of the amplifier's operation. If you've already played with the tubes, then the filter caps are still on the table.
Preamp
@dskinner5 if you are looking for a balanced tube preamp, I would not limit yourself to ARC. I'm very sure you can do better and for less $
Hum problem
As I alluded to these two items earlier(caps & grounds), and you have been more specific as to which caps, wouldn’t those devices which have physical movement associated with their functionality be more suspect for abnormal operation of th...
Hum problem
The problem is not the feedback switch. The hum changes because with increased feedback, some of the hum is wiped out.The hum is independent of tubes, so right now its sounding like you have filter capacitors in the power supply that are failing. ...
Are future improvements in Amp/PreAmps slowing to a crawl?
...applies some positive phase second order distortion through the NFB loop balance to warm the sound up and open up the stage. Translation: without adding second order - the raw circuit is "cool " sounding and has a narrow or restricted sound st...
Low output gain amplifier for ZU 101db Efficient speakers
Hiss at the tweeter is normal for any system of that efficiency. Glad you got it sorted!
