Bass Vs speaker efficiency
Am I wrong to think tight bass is a clean bass without being boomy?Clearly its a word that has different definitions with different people.
NOS Tubes - Ecstasy or Agony
NOS Tubes - Ecstasy or AgonyYes :)@drewh1  We use a lot of 6SN7s in our circuits both in preamps and amps. The Shugang tube is a copy of the Phillips JAN tube made in the late 1970s and early 80s and sounds almost the same. The Shugang factory bur...

@rauliruegas  Al (almarg) and Roger (ramtubes) have both passed on, RIP.
Why are low impedance speakers harder to drive than high impedance speakers
For headphones, why do we need good, high, powered amp to move headphones with very high impedance (300-600 ohms). You don't. Many phones of this impedance are easily driven by a few milliwatts. Some 'phones require a bit of power and others don't...
Bass Vs speaker efficiency
I think when many people refer to “tight” bass they are trying to express a juxtaposition to the perhaps more common “loose bass”.Its a good point. I've just not heard 'tight bass' in real life, only in stereos.

Btw, I provoke the wbt " banned " on purpose and I let to know it to gentlemans that through the wbt inside private emails gave me their support to follow posting and told that I don’t wanted anymore to stay where the owner is " hunting me " an...
Bass Vs speaker efficiency
'Tight' bass is a coloration and has nothing to do with efficiency.
push pull or single ended
@injr  Are you using an electronic crossover? If not the efficiency of your speakers will be a problem with most SETs.

In the other side the " tale " about those " tick and pop " is just that a tale that can't be proved it happens.Sure it can. I have to admit though the first time I encountered this it had me floored. That was a bit over 30 years ago. Since then I...
A question of loading...
In 2018 thread where wyn posted and before the first wyn post you posted not one but twice:""" When you load at a very low value (like less than 100 ohms) its possible to reduce the cartridge output and also decrease high frequency tracking abi...
A question of loading...
The issue that's false is that exist mistracking when more current running through the cartridge.I don't think anyone has stated that this leads directly to mistracking. The issue is that mistracking not that cantilever stiffness. It's you who ...
A question of loading...
So not going with education huh? A.Porter place he was running his low impedance MC cartrige around 400-500 and when I listened to it ( I/O phono stage. ) I told him that something was wrong with and I suggested to change the load impedance to ...
A question of loading...
"" To claim that the loading affects the measurable frequency response of the cartridge is bogus. However, if inappropriate loading bathes the phono stage in copius amounts of high-frequency noise, it may start to distort (unless the designer...

47 steps in attenuators seems to be another inexplicable industry standard.@fsonicsmith That's because if you don't go entirely electronic with the volume control, its insanely expensive to get a custom switch built with the exact number of steps ...

Ken uses a SUT that doesn't really have a lot of boost because I think he believes that as the step up increases, the loss is SQ is too great. That's been our experience too. The more stepup you use the less bandwidth you get. We regularly run car...
