Vinyl - One Word - WOW!! Project was the brand that brought me back to vinyl for a while. I didn't stay, but I learned some respect for what a good LP playback rig can do.
Are There Improvements that Can Be Easily and Quickly Made Without Buying More Stuff? I've heard various accounts of very noticeable improvements to sound quality by moving furnishings around, or moving a piece of furnishing in or out of the room.
I have NOVA V's and I am not happy @ozzy62 I agree that getting different speakers is a great option, but if someone wanted to keep these speakers I don’t see any other option than EQ. And, if the off axis response is a smooth mirror of the on-axis response the results will so...
The Best Room I've Ever Heard What a wonderful experience! I’ve heard some ultra high end systems in very good rooms and they were magical. Those impressions stick in my mind and give me a reference point to strive towards. You’d think that listening to live music would be the...
I have NOVA V's and I am not happy Looking at the response they measured below I get the impression that could be a very bright speaker depending on the room you are in and how it is set up. I can’t imagine how a speaker with a more flat on-axis response could be so bright unless i...
Is a highly discerning system enjoyable? I have built systems where I chased details and ended up in very weird places. I usually didn't realize how weird until I quit listening to it for a while and then fired it back up a few days later. "Discerning" can have a lot of meaning in terms ...
Confession: I only like Norah Jones because so many others told me to I'm a Norah fan. Come Away With Me is (was) an audiophile staple. My girlfriend bought it first but then I heard it everywhere I went to listen to high end systems for a while. Last time was at a presentation of the Magnepan 30.7. Funny thing is t...
The revolution has begun! I like the objective versus subjective chart. It gets complicated though since almost everything is biased, colored by personal feelings, equivalent to opinions, and non-factual & non-verifiable. I prefer to use the terms objective and subject...
I have found out why new cables and tweaks actually work! This reminds me of the effect of cleaning up the frame on my bicycle so all the paint and chrome looks nice and shiny. It seems to ride so much better even though I didn't clean or lubricate any of the moving parts or adjust anything.
The revolution has begun! @bigtwin I didn't mean to come across in attack mode! It's great that you've got what works for you. I have been happy with many systems in my past but always choose to try new things as I become aware of audible issues and decide to tackle them. ...
The revolution has begun! @bigtwin But the final word was it doesn’t produce the sound of amps costing 5 or 10 times as much. What is the sound of amps costing 5 or 10 times as much? Is it an accurate amplification of the input signal, more accurate or more capable of...
The revolution has begun! @ricevs I never got a pure digital chain working with power dacs all the way down. I couldn't figure out how to do it affordably. So I've always converted to analog after the digital crossovers and equalization and then went with regular class D...
The revolution has begun! No problem convincing me of this revolution with digital active crossovers, pure path digital amplifiers, switching power supplies, etc. , all of which actually happened a while ago. It all works for me. I prefer them by a long shot. But not every...
Powered speakers show audiophiles are confused @phusis Very few audiophiles have been "exposed" to the sound of horn-loaded subs (or their variants), not least for the reasons you outline as a MFR, which is a shame, because they deliver a very smooth, enveloping and effortless bass reproduc...
Has anyone been able to define well or measure differences between vinyl and digital? @thespeakerdude Thanks! So I assume those records have perhaps sweeps and pink noise, white noise, etc, which you could get a line level reading off of the phono stage output to analyze. Anybody here tried that? I did my testing using a Behr... |
