Review: Eastern Electric Minimax DAC DA converter
Jitter out of the Touch might explain my findings. The EE DAC sounded a little different when fed by the Cary transport than when fed by the Touch. And oddly, it sounded very much like the Cary analog output itself when fed by the Cary transport, ...

Review: Eastern Electric Minimax DAC DA converter
Comparison #3: This morning I compared the analog output of the Cary 308T cd player to the analog output of EE DAC tube stage fed by the transport of the Cary 308T. I was surprised at how similar they sound - hard to distinguish - and even more su...
Upgrade from Silverline 11
1. Your amp might be more of a constraining factor than the speakers.2. Both the 11 and the 17 series are among Silverlines more neutral and analytical speakers. Others have a more natural sweetness to them, as I recall, at the expense of (perhaps...
Eastern Electric's new tube DAC using ESS Sabre??
The EE DAC playing out of my SB Touch - getting signal via wifi from MacBook Pro, Apple Lossless - so far is in the same league as my Cary 308T. It has a slightly different mix of attributes and I'd probably say the Cary leads by a small margin to...
Cardas ICs are too warm for Tube amp
Cardas is often a tough call. I have used a variety of their older lines and still tend to use Cardas Golden Ref fairly often. The bottom line for me often is this:- Objectively, I will sit there and think that the other cable (the non-Cardas) has ...
Eastern Electric's new tube DAC using ESS Sabre??
Ask me again Sunday evening. Comparing the EE Dac to my Cary 308T is one of my primary tasks for this weekend. And how momentous this is! Do I need a cd player from now on for my high end sound?Alas my wifi has been very flakey recently so.... it m...
Girlfriend's mom threw my Cardas out with trash
I guess this is late to suggest this, but, home insurance might actually cover this, minus your deductible. However it could result in higher rates for a few years. Artps: There is no limit the extent to which women will go to test a man's composu...
What are the alternatives for Kimber and Cardas?
Check out empiricalaudio dot com Steve is famous for his digital gear but his interconnects and speaker cable have an incredibly beautiful sound. They are definitely in the warm school of cables but not has strongly as cables like Cardas. Also the...
Eastern Electric's new tube DAC using ESS Sabre??
I just got a new one last night and played it for a few hours. It is extremely nice, and definitely an increment over the SB Touch analog outs.Art
LSA 1 Monitors in a small room??
There was a strong rumor (long ago) that the LSA 2 was a repackaged version of the VS model 2, or visa versa, I forget which. They had a superficial resemblance as I recall but sounded very different. I always wondered how that rumor got started. ...
Best budget speakers for near-field/small space
I use a converter on my A5's to be able to plug in a standard power cable. (I think Audio Advisor has the converter). Even a $30 high grade basic power cable improves the flow and authority a lot. Also I use a thick (12 or 10 gauge, I forget) spea...
LSA 1 Monitors in a small room??
Wonderful!
Single-wire biwire versus single-wire plus jumper
Celtic66, you use the SAME wire and you just make a long length of it bare, is that correct?
Thiel 2.3 vs 2.4
I personally found the 2.3 a massive improvement over the 2.2, and the 2.4 a massive improvement over the 2.3 . All Thiels need a lot of power to really shine, and clean (not harsh) source and amplification. Without adequate power they seem harsh....
