Stereophile review- Fisher 500 C Well, one time the volume control on/off switch broke. Apparently this is one of the few weaknesses of the unit. You are supposed to use an external on-off switch. The problem was easy to bypass. The on/off part broke, not the potentiometer.Anothe...
Does anyone do good protest music anymore? Springsprint paints portraits of difficult situations that people - often blue collar people - face. For example, "41 shots" is not so much a protest against police actions as it is a portrait of the delicate situation that both the police and poo...
Stereophile review- Fisher 500 C My Fisher 400 was truly a great communicator of music, far outclassing its value. I did find that I needed to have it repaired every couple of years. Fortunately we have a local expert in Palo Alto, and it's fun to have the excuse to meet with him...
Stereophile review- Fisher 500 C The problem with using an older piece day to day is that it will be far more prone to breakdown. (Would you rely on that Porsche 356 for commuting?) Of course, having your stereo break down does not keep you from your day job : - )--a
Putting Audio & HT on wall floor is $1000 sq ft I think it's a bubble at this point (I could believe a small bedroom even at $600k, given the current interest rates, but $900k?!)Art
Stereophile review- Fisher 500 C I owned a renovated Fisher 400 for a long time (sold it recently). It has a very warm, lovely, euphonic sound, very much in the style of older tube amps. Listening to FM classic music through that piece makes it real clear why classic used to be p...
Can DK design MKII drive the Magenapan MG1.6 well? Thanks Mamzh. It took a lot of time and work but the feedback has been gratifying. Now how come no one in this thread has claimed that the DK "blows away the Levinson" ; - )
Silverline Sonata II or Sonatina II I added Rel Strata III sub to my Silverline Sonatina II, and seemed to add an extraordinary amount of grace and depth and beauty to the sound. I could swear that the treble and midrange actually sound better in addition to the bass - is this possi...
Any problems with Springsteens DualDisc? I vote for better recording quality on the Springsteen discs. Even the early LP's were muddy. No excuse for that. As for politics, his lyrics have always suggested sympathy for those struggling to make it in our society. I've never detected that h...
Cables for Thiel CS6 Audience AU-24 might be a good match. I eventually switched from CGR to AU24 and use it currently for speaker cable. Nice and thin too, cool looking I think.
Can DK design MKII drive the Magenapan MG1.6 well? DK sound can be tuned with input tubes and cabling, and there is substantial power, so I would be very surprised if this were not a nice match. Art
Simaudio I-5 vs. Cary SLI-80 integrated amps Apples and oranges. Tubes more lifelike, SS more bass grip.
Cables for Thiel CS6 I used to love Cardas Golden Ref and Cardas Golden Cross with Thiels. The former is a little more neutral and detailed, the latter has an irresistable sound in the right circumstances.
Best Integrated Amp, Price no obstacle? Anyone compared Rowland Concerto with the older Concentra I or II?
Cable support poll. I use the porcelin black/brown round lifters you can see on Audiogon for sale some time. I like them a lot. I cannot claim to have heard a substantial audio effect, but I also have not done serious comparative testing. |
